Im all done contemplating on which oil!!

.....it's gonna be delvac 15w40 conventional in my 2007 duramax (year round) Im not gonna pay double that for a readily available group III synthetic (Rotella 5w40). I saw the price of the Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 at Walmart....DOUBLE the price of delvac,it's not gonna give me DOUBLE the protection now. I will use the OLM and change accordingly,...I'll bet that the body will fall off of the frame of this truck before I have any major engine problems on this tried and true HDEO! Chime in any and everyone!

I agree. I am thinking about going Toyota OEM because it is reasonably priced down here, one of the cheaper ones, approved by Toyota and easy to get... we all need professional help!!

Ponch - how dare you apply common sense and fiscal logic to your scenario? Where do you get off thinking that common conventional oil will protect your engine far past the expected life cycle of the vehicle? Why would you put any faith in the countless examples of excellent used oil analysis and testimonials to the contrary. Don't you know that only "synthetic" fluids will save your vehicle from a short and troubled life?

On the serious side, this is exactly the same reason I'm moving from RTS to Rotella conventional 10w30 this fall in my Dmax. I put less than 5k miles a year on my truck. Why in the world do I need to pay for a group III or IV, at 2x or 3x the price of Delo/Delvac/Rotella? I surely won't get 2x or 3x the "protection".

Common sense is a great thing!

But remember that you can't trust a $20 used oil analysis. (unless it makes *your* oil look good)

You get what you pay for.

People want the "best" for their engines.

Just think of all the deposits left in your engine...

What about all the marketing that you are going to have to ignore.

I'm with you all too! Delvac 10w30 in winter and Delvac 15w40 in summer for my 07 D-Max. All my fleet(cars) is going back to conventional! I never run past 6k on anything and I think that conventional will serve me very well and my pocketbook better!!

Good thinking Ponch. Even though I settled on Delo a few years ago mostly because of the bulk dealer and price Delvac is a great oil. Ive run Delvac, Delo, and Rotella in Series 60 Detroits and farm equipment over the years. All three are million mile oils.


Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry--Delvac, Delo, Rotella
Its all good.

About $9 at Wal-Mart....Mobil is running a $3 rebate per jug right now also, so that knocks it down to $6 a gallon.

Im sure I wont have any problem in the winter, as long as I dont beat on it when she's cold! Im also not worried about deposits with conventional oil because HDEO's are a different animal, more "robust" i guess you could say. I never hear of sludging problems with HDEO's if changed at acceptable intervals. DELVAC 15W40 FOR EVERYTHING I OWN LAWNMOWER, TRACTOR ETC..... IM GOING TO BUY THE WHOLE SHELF AT Walmart!!

I switched to Mobile Delvac Super 1300 15w40 earlier this year. I used to run Amsoil 15w40 and had great uao's, but I wasn't putting enough miles on in a year to justify using synthetics. It takes me about a year to put the 15k on the oil that was needed to justify the synthetic. So I did two oil changes and uao's at 7.5k miles using the Amsoil just to get a good baseline to compare the dino with. The first change that I made with the Delvac the uao's came back with lower iron count and everything else the same. This uao was on all towing miles with extreme hot (115 degrees) and cold snowy condition. I pulled some long hills with exhaust temps pushing limits so it was a good test. Will be coming up on second change in a month or so and expect it to be as good. This uao will also be on almost all towing but in extreme hot conditions. I agree with you that the dino usage will outlast the body and rest of the drivetrain. I can feel the earth shaking on this subject already.

Delvac 1300 vs 1 is about a $30 difference per oil change for me (3 gallons in a Dodge Cummins), which is about 7 gallons of fuel these days, which for me is 1/5 of a tank of fuel. I like the way Delvac starts up and revs when cold, the bit less noise, the noticeably reduced oil consumption (from a little to almost none), and the ability to extend the oil change a bit as I'm trying to keep five vehicles running.

But ,but, but! syn oil is the best!!!! You will get 5 mpgs better and the engine will never wear out,tires will last longer and the brakes will work better etc..
