That's worthy of being on a plaque on the wall.

p.s. I was just referring to your first sentence.

I'm beginning to see the pondering wisdom in Groucho's hit and run one liners ..at least on some level...but this one begs the question, when the smartest guy in the room leaves for either greener pastures or new challenges ...what does his successor do now being the smartest guy in the room

Good point Gary, a comedian once commented he was the last person running in a marathon. While running, the second to last guy turned around and yelled "Hows it feel being last in the race?" The comedian commented "So I dropped out."

If you go far enough down the bell curve you will find people who enjoy being the smartest person in the room. That's part of the reason they are so far down the low side of bell curve.

Yes, there are those who would rather be a master in their own comfortable [censored] than being a plebe in a challenging environment. In terms of employment, most environments are good for about 5 years. By that time you've figured out the "is that all there is?

" aspect to it ..you get bored and wait for an excuse to bail ..or you screw off with the futility of doing a good job and you're compelled to jump out of a fully functional air plane with nothing but cold water as your LZ.

...but...let's face it ...I doubt that you'll see too many former icons of personal achievement (as we tend to measure it), boasting of their status in the challenge of poverty (relative term) ..regardless of how "personally fulfilling" the "noble ideal" is. That attitude was reserved for librarians and teachers where women of intelligence could actually be intelligent and they willingly paid the price.

A friend of mine in college said "I'm smarter than the average bear, but the average bears have all dropped out."
