If you had to choose???

I'm up in the air over which 5w30 oil to use.
Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum

2011 silverado extended cab LT 5.3 6 spd 2x4 motor was replaced with a NEW one by GM. I'm running GM synthetic blend but it is time to change it. I'm going full synthetic.

Please opinions needed. Thanks

I haven't run Mobil 1 but had PP in both my vehicles and both engines ran very very smooth and quiet. I think both my engines were very happy on PP, I sure was.

Pennzoil Platinum usually has better wear numbers than Mobil 1.
I'd run Pennzoil.

dksram, I've seen this too in the Used Oil Analysis(UOA)Section. But, try both on sale when you need your next Oil Change Intervals(OCI's) and you pick!

Many claim that the M1 makes the engines noisy. I can attest to this as I have run both and PP is quieter.

Both are excellent oils....either will give you many trouble-free miles. The 'noise' thing is most likely acoustics.

I decided on Mobil 1 in my Chevy Cruze.

I have used both in different vehicles. They are both fine lubricants. Look for the best sale on a filter and oil deal and use that. You will not be wrong with either.

Of the two I would use the PU. PP is also very popuular with the GM crowd for those 5.3L's w/ AFM.

As of right now im running pennzoil dexos synthetic blend, in my truck.

I may stick with it or move up to Pennzoil Platinum or Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

I vote m1 in your app because its a bit cheaper right now at walmart.

I don't think that we have access to enough information on the basestocks actually used in these two oils to draw any conclusions about their relative quality.
A quick perusal of the used oil analysis forum belies the assumption that M1 is capable of longer drains in any given application than is PP.
There are some outstanding used oil analysis of 10K+ runs for both oils.

With the near impossibility to find PU in stores now,they really need to upgrade PP to make it closer to Ultra specs.This would keep those who cant find PU anywhere IN the Pennzoil family.I would think those who used PU and cant find it will shift to M1.

I would choose Mobil 1 right now because its a couple of bucks less than pp for a 5 qt jug at walmart, if it was a few months back, it would have been the other way around.

I hate Mobil and am a pennzoil fan however between pp and M1 I'd buy whichever was cheaper.Although they aren't identical I believe them to be equal in actual use and both will lead to stellar engine cleanliness and long life.
If you can acquire ultra its better than both.
When M1 was still SM it made my 5.3 sound like it was going to explode. I was using Amsoil prior,but Pennzoil conventional made it purr.
M1's SN formulations seem to have gotten over making engines more noisy when I used AFE in my hemi. So in that regard they may have done something to decrease the added acoustics from the SM spec.

I have run both and would only sway towards the pennzoil because it ran quieter in my engines. Both are good oils though.

This is my experience with Mobil 1 as well! This and price are 2 reasons that I don't use Mobil 1 oils any longer although, I do use Mobil 1 Gear Oil(75W90 LS) and ATF(Dexron/Mercon) with great success and like them very much. I'll give Mobil 1 oils a try again in the future. I am sure that the Mobil 1 noise is just noise as it does have a good reputation.
