If Pennzoil is one of the best, why is it so cheap

Not that I'm complaining.

But learning a lot over the last week here on this forum. It seems Pennzoil is one of the favored oils and apparently does a very good job at cleaning as well.

Was just in Wal-Mart and jug of PHM was $12.50, just a dollar more than Super-Tech HM. PYB was $11.50 which is just 50 cents to a dollar more than store brands at different parts stores.

Rarely is the best of something one of the cheapest.

Yeah, I agree with that.

But comparing in the same store, Valvoline HM for example was $16.50/jug.

The only thing that I wonder about is Walmart is known to force its suppliers to cut cost to make any profit margin. And the PYB is stickered for Walmart, "Bring your used oil back to Walmart". I doubt though that Pennzoil (or Quaker State etc) is changing its product for Walmart though, but I don't really know. Any VOA of Walmart oils out there?

Now the same price as MC 5w20 syn blend, Castrol and Havoline at the Wally's around me. Competition. I've not seen Castrol on par (been higher) with the others' prices in a while.

about 4 months ago WM was selling it for $10.50 a jug. Canadian WM is selling QS 5qt for $9 CDN and Valv WB for $11 for 5.5qt.Which leads me to believe that WM could sell for less in US, so while PYB is priced modestly, they are still making a profit, don't worry about that part. The reason we find it "cheap" is corporate policy. For instance the policy of Castrol is to overprice the products, and they get the market of the people who can be swindled into thinking that by paying more, the product must be better, even though it really is not. PYB just does not believe in swindling people, the same way that Mobil Oil, and Castrol do. They are not run by the same greedy thieving bunch, and they believe in selling a superb product at a fair price. However, the real bargain is Ashland: they sell their NAPA full synthetic group 3 for $3 per quart at NAPA stores during their sales. periodically check with NAPA at the beginning of the month flyer, and then stock up. MC 5w20 symi synthetic is also a super bargain at $11.50 a 5 qt. jug.

Most oils at Walmart have the Walmart oil recycling text. The Valvoline Maxlife I have (both blend and full synthetic) says it, the Synpower says it, and all of my Pennzoil Platinum says it.

Yeah I wasn't singling out PZ, I was just saying the oil suppliers know ahead of time which oil is going to Walmart for whatever that's worth.

Yeah, and most of the oil we see in the VOA and UOA forum came from Walmart. If something was different, it would be caught very quickly.

It is all the same oil. They do not change the formulation for WM. You are correct about knowing when they are getting ready to package for WM.

The real question should be why is SuperTech oil so expensive? Whenever WalMart's house brand sells for almost as much money as national brands, something is wrong.

So by your logic any inexpensive product is produced by companies that are run by "honest" and "just" men, and any company that sells expensive products are run by crooks and thieves.

I agree. There really have been no issues with API SM oils where called for.
