Hi, If I want to use my oil filter twice can I safely remove my XG10575 in order to drain it before adding new fresh oil in my engine ? Am I looking for creating more chance for an oil leak ?

one interval using my OLM on my eco 3.5 in my f150 = +- 15000 km or 9300 miles so i would maximize the use of this fine filter .

or should I keep using the fl500s each oil change at the end it would cost just a bit more .

Some people will scream NO!!!!! Other people will say go ahead. Me....Do what "you" feel comfortable with. Me. I would use a NAPA Gold oil filter 7502 and change the oil every 5000 miles.

No to re-using it period or no to removing it or no XG ? :-)

Btw I've just chat with Fram and they dont recommend reinstalling a filter ... so ill stay with my fl500s or ill look at your suggestion

I ran XG10575 for two 5k rounds in my 3.5L eB ... little difference in the filling needs ... so I did not remove

Personally I just run the same oil for both OCIs. Thus it's the same adds, and the tiny bit in there won't matter.

While I think you'll be fine, assuming the gasket releases easily, why chance it for 0.1 qt?

This approach makes the most sense to me. I'm inclined to think that the small amount of used oil left in the filter would be less of an issue than the potential leaks caused by removal and re-installation. I wouldn't think the rubber seal would be as flexible after being exposed to oil, as well as the heat cycles and compression during the first OCI.

If one interval is 9.3K, don;t use that filter for a 2nd 9.3K OCI.
Isn't the XG more money - priced like an Ultra? If so, use a Wix, NAPA Gold or Fram TG for 9.3K. Watch for sales and buy 2-3 at a time. I limit my backstock to two years worth.

fram just told me 7.5 ounces capacity, so I wont bother removing it then or ill go with a TG every oil change ill see at the time

I'm not saying to run ANY filter for even 10K, let-alone 20K. My OCIs are 7K-tops and 5K Hyundai. Those premium filters may last 20K. But not on my vehicles..... no way Jose.
I am 1st and last owner. I take pride and clean care of my stuff.

Getting rid of that vehicle prematurely to old age?...... go ahead. Even run them 30K.

Ok got it :-)

How about using the Fram XG for two 8,000 mile intervals? That 7 ounces of old oil remaining really matters little, and the XG is good for 20K. If that bothers you, the Tough Guard, Wix, Napa Gold or Motorcraft is the way to go for each change..

If you take it off, put a new one on. If you want to run it for two OC, just leave it on. That's what I'm going to start doing with my Camry. The oil filter housing is annoying to remove and replace and Fram says they're good for 20,000 miles.

Not trying to be rude, but I really don't understand this process:

You plan an oil change, get all your tools/ramps/oil out. You get the car/truck up onto ramps, or onto a set of jack stands, get a drain pan under it plus maybe a catch mat.

You climb under the vehicle with a wrench and wrench off the drain plug, drain the oil, let it drip...etc...

You go to all this work, all these steps, and while you are under there you don't bother to, or want to, take the extra 3-4 mins to unscrew the oil filter, and then screw on a new filter.

If you are going to all this work, why not just do the freaking filter while you are there?!?!

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. If you want to get the full life out of a long life filter, just buy an oil that will do 15-20k, and run oil and filter that long.

fsdork's remarks and others above nail the issue.
I say don't remove the oil filter. Having a little used oil in there won't hurt anything.

If you do want to remove it, then:
1. Don't put it back on IF it was tightened down very hard. I had this happen recently (dealership oil filter) where they over-torqued the thing, probably damaging the gasket.
2. Do re-fill the filter as much as possible before installing to avoid a dry start.

I live on the wild side-my MGM goes THREE 5K OCIs on the same filter, and it doesn't come off. xB has been getting two 10K OCIs on it's XG3600 (when it doesn't get dented).
