Ideas to flavor water

Some people put a pinch of baking soda in their coffee to cut down some of the acid.
It's mostly the caffeine that stimulates stomach acid secretion, it's not so much the little bit chlorogenic acid from the coffee. You have tens of milliliters of 0.5% hydrochloric acid (stomach acid) in your stomach. Introducing a buffer into the stomach acid will further increase hydrohcloric acid excretion. That's why alkaline anti-acid products tend to backfire. Proton pump inhibitors are effective but not without side effects. Also keep in mind that the acidic environment in the stomach is a defense against pathogens.

Try some barley and hops and yeast.
Thanks. There's a guy I know in the Far East who suggested the same thing when `I asked him His response gave me some ideas, and now you've reinforced my desire to explore the possibilities that this, and perhaps a similar, combination offers. 👍

That's called beer.

I actually drink cold barley tea all the time in the summer. It comes in large teabags and I buy at the Japanese grocery store. Just throw a bag in a pitcher and put it in the fridge. Its good in warm weather but I don;'t care for it when it's cold. Odd.

Just wanted to be sure you are using a carbon filter to get the chlorine out. That stuff is awful.
If you let water sit for a few days the chlorine evaporates. Chloramine, which often is used instead of chlorine, does not evaporate. A carbon filter may remove some or most of the chloramine.

Over the years I've checked on our water quality. There have been times when the utility website says they use chlorine, other times it has said they use chloramine. Regardless of that, there are other contaminants that the filter removes, such as lead. I couldn't see not using a filter.

For a change of pace on a hot day, try infusing a bottle of cold water with thin slices of cucumber. Another idea is to slice up some fresh strawberries and/or oranges to flavor the cold water. Tastes best after sitting overnight in the refrigerator.

I didn't say you shouldn't filter your water. I hope you filter your shower water because when you shower you absorb a lot more contaminants compared to drinking a couple of glasses of water. I forget the exact figure. It wasn't pretty.

I hate plain water too. Got a cirkul water bottle from Walmart, and there are hundreds of different flavor cartridges. Flavors it when you drink it. The flavor cartridges are kinda expensive but I can usually fill the water bottle a few times(3-6) before it runs out. The consistency doesn’t seem to be the best, some seem to last awhile and others seem to run out pretty fast. I have liked every flavor I’ve tried though.

Thanks for jumping in. I'm not interested in that sort of thing ... just some things that I can add to my filtered water to give it a bit of flavor. Some good suggestions have been made here and elsewhere. I'm set.

I didn't mean to suggest you did.

The shower water just received a filter a couple of months ago. Got it as an unexpected gift from my sister. She put one in her shower and wanted me to have one as well.

I have nexgen bottle that I cut up half a lemon and just throw it in with the water.

I try to drink at least a quart of water daily, and my doctor suggests that more can be helpful. Unfortunately, I don't care much for plain water, and to help increase my intake, flavor is added to the liquid. Usually, I make a slow-steeped tea and drink it from the fridge or at room temperature. Less frequently, a bit of fresh lemon juice is added to a bottle of water. I also drink sugar-free flavored mineral water, such as Trader Joe's.

Additional ideas for adding sugar-free flavor to water would be great. I'd like to stay away from the various "unsweetened" drinks that fill the market shelves ... TJ's mineral water (and another similar, local brand) is as far as I'll go in that direction.

I’m not a fan of plain water either. I add a splash of lemon and a squeeze of the Walmart water flavor that’s strawberry and watermelon. You could do just straight lemon in water. My wife swears it’s a detoxifier.

Just my $0.02
