for all of you obsessed oil/oil filter guys i came up with an idea of how to do "real world" oil filter testing. it is similar to the other filter testing method on this board but a bit different.
here is my idea;
install a remote filter mount on your vehicle with a pressure sensor on the inlet and outlet of the filter mount. that would allow you to monitor pressure difference (delta p) all the time. it would also add "real world" oil temps, oil condition, and filter effeciency over a real period of time on a real vehicle. you could monitor the difference in pressure over the entire period the filter is on your vehicle which would include effeciency as the filter fills up with particles. you'd also see the pressure difference when the oil is cold and hot. since most filter mounts use a PH8A type filter you could test different brands and different sizes to see if it really makes any difference.
the only problem is that it could take a very long time (years) to test different filters. i think it would be interesting though.
with that said i am not going to do this test myself, i am not afflicted with the same sickness you guys have (yet, but i'm showing slight symptoms). i just thought i toss the idea out and maybe someone else might also find it interesting and run with the idea.
