Thought i would ask this in a new Thread! I have the idea for a Franken-mix of Cleaning Oils. please tell me how this sounds, for a de-sludging, and perhaps even stick with this "Mix" and adjust accordingly for Winter:

1) The Killer Blend I have planned, to Really promote Cleaning, involves a Mix of grades, so im not sure if i have BITOG approval on it. However, it is a Franken-mix! Here is what i Would do, with my 5-quart Sump, if i get the "Yea" on it:

a. 1 QUART of Pennzoil ULTRA, 10W-30, its thickest Grade. This will promote great Cleaning, due to the Engine.
b. 1 QUART MaxLife by Valvoline FULL Synthetic 10W-30, for its high NOACK And Cleaning/SEALING Ability (I use MaxLife Blend at this time, 10W-40 and 20W-50 same time.)
c. Quarts 3 and 4: Valvoline ML Synth. BLEND 20W-50, to get that Viscosity back.
d. Quart 5: MMO!
e. Seek and find a Purolator filter, Ive only been able to find STP.

This would be my "Killer Mix" .. and maybe "2000 Miles" or so, then back to ML 10W40/20W-50, so this Engine can get back to its Glory. (And not Drink Oil every 1000 miles or so. No visible leaks and its not in the Coolant it just Burns Off.)

I also thought MaxLife 10W-40 was Fine, stability and Volatility-wise. I selected it because Valvoline seems to have nailed it with their formulation, exceeds SM..

(Yes, i c/ped - Cut and Paste

I wouldn't mess with all those different oils out of worry over how the different additive packages might work (or not work) together.

My "killer blend" for cleaning is 80% conventional HDEO - like Delo, Delvac or Rotella 15 w 40 (in alphabetical order) - and 20% MMO. In dirty engines with noisy lifters, I have run it just a few hundred miles and then replaced it and the filter for a normal OCI after the lifters quieted down. I've run it for normal OCIs when I've bought used cars with no evidence of sludge just for good measure.

I have posted UOAs here for approximately 5000 mile OCIs with 20% MMO and they look absolutely great - with slightly lower wear metal numbers than without MMO.

I have seen MMO in the oil make engines with significant leaks worse while it is in them, so I watch fot that.

This sounds better.

I have a better idea... do an oil change with 100% MMO and a new oil filter. Run it for about 2-300 miles or more if you like. The MMO shouldn't be too contaminated because the new oil filter should have filtered it. Drain the MMO and use in the fuel so it doesn't go to waste.

This sounds like advice i shouldnt take. It doesnt sound right.

So, i should not attempt my Mix?

i woudlnt. i would use the quart of MMO with the rest of it being a cheap, maybe kinda thicker, conventional oil

maybe im wrong, but since your not using a full 4-5 quarts of any of those oils, i dont think you'll be getting the full benefits of any of them.

This is exactly how I feel. Too many different chemisties competing.

How about a fill of any HDEO, with MMO added for the last 500 or so miles if you really must?
A HDEO will actually clean, if the engine really does need cleaning.
Now, if you just have some odd quarts laying around, your proposed mix would likely work okay, but I wouldn't buy oil premised upon creating this mix.

Correct. Don't follow the advice. It's my humor on steroids.

Go ahead and do your Frankenmix. Nothing harmful should come of it. I don't necessarily see a whole lot of benefit to it, but you've got enough visc there to handle the lighter MMO add, imo.

Given the short mileage you (I think) mentioned (2000?), I'd skip the synthetics.

I don't really see the killer cleaning in that mix. Why not just use an ester oil like redline or rotella 10w30 semi syn. If you really have sludge try auto rx.
