I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

I found this Gopher snake crossing my road this morning. He is by far the longest one I have ever seen!

It's hard to tell w/o something next to him for comparison but he stretched almost completly across my road. He's gotta be 7 ft long!

No I did not kill him. I scooted him off the road so he won't get smashed.

I ran over a rattlesnake almost that big on my mountain bike a few years ago. Didn't see the snake until I was on top of it. Not nice. We have a lot of rattlesnake around here. I see several each year on the mountain bike trails.

Running over the big rattler with my bike didn't kill it, at least not immediately. I have no clue if it survived.

Rattle snakes are o.k. to kill, non poisonous snakes let live.

I disagree. No reason to kill a snake just because it's poisonous. They keep the pests down as well.

It is not worth the risk of being bitten. Go out in to rattle snake country and get bit then we can talk organic stuff.

Depends where they are and your snake handling capabilities.

Out in nature, I agree with you. In a residential area with pets, children, gardners, etc, rattlers need to be dispatched. Preferably alive, but not necessarily alive.

Long ago I got corrected by a snake handling zoologist for saying snakes are poisonous because theyre not. Theyre venomous. Just passing that along.

I kill venomous snakes on my property because I have pets I dont want killed. When Im out in the country in the woods on other properties without pets I watch my step and when I find a venomous snake I go around it and leave it alone.

Venomous snake come into my yard: It Die

Venomous snake I see in nature: I leave alone and warn anyone I see headed toward the snake.

running over a snake with a bike will not kill it. I tried for 20 minutes to chop off the head of a cottonmouth without success. Scenario: I was riding a lawnmower and saw it in a very residential area near a lake. Ran to my truck and grabbed a shovel, another guy grabbed his shovel also. We hit it for 20 minutes as hard as we could, even turning the shovel sideways trying to cut off his head. Finally he went as fast as he could towards the lake and dove in. This was a huge snake that was easily as big around as an average mans forearm and at least 7 ft long.

Anyways I really doubt that you hurt him with your air filled bike tires, they are made of cartilidge and muscle not bones.

A 20 minute beat down, well at least he got a very good tune up out of it. Bet he was sore and slow moving for the next two weeks as he swore to never hang around that area again. lol

My grandfather drove over a big anaconda at night in venezuela with all wheels. Didnt see it till it was too late. Turned around to look at it and said it didnt kill it and it didnt even appear to be hurt by it. It just slithered off the road like nothing happened.

I would be too embarrassed to post something like that. I would expect people to think I'm a real idiot and a major arsehole. I'm talking only about my expectations here, of course. I'm sure your expectations were different: to show you were a guardian of the public, snake slayer, hero, etc. Of course, the snake got away, so you totally failed.
