1) If my stash wasn't so big, I would try it.
2) Didn't know M1 was tainted. I don't think it's the best oil for a Jeep, but she'll be fine nevertheless.
3) Yep. Anything will make that motor go.
4) I personally think so (depending on use), however, I use 5W30 in my Jeeps during winter (except my Cherokee which currently has Supertech 10W30 cut down with almost a quart of MMO - 7W27? LOL). When out on the trail, it's stop and go, so the oil never really gets hot. Besides, the GTX that's in there is 10.8 cSt @100*C, which is fine.

Tainted in the whole 5-30 not being a true 5-30 thread/discussion/thing here on BITOG.

Whats that Quaker State 'Q' in the clear jugs all about? Is it any good? Does it really add all that horse power? hmmm...

Well, you're probably going to get a bunch of answers on this one. Many of the oils in my stash are either old or discontinued. For example, I picked up 19 gallons of Chevron Delo400 SAE30 (some rated SJ and SL) back in fall '05 for $.99/gallon. I also picked up 20 quarts of SL rated GTX drivehard (I think it's dated 05/'01) for $1/quart. Both of these have survived well in my trail beaten '92 Wrangler with some pretty nice used oil analysis. If I had your Jeep, I would run 5w30 conventional in winter and conventional 10w40 in summer. 10w30 may be "preferred", but I like to use 40 weights in these tractor engines for more extreme use. Many 4.0L's here have nice used oil analysis on 40 weights. There's one guy here who had a stellar 4.0L UOA on Havoline 10W30, so you never know. If you can get good results using a 10W30, then by all means go for that weight.

I have some older "Q" syn blend in my stash. I've always liked Quaker State oils and used to use green bottle exclusively in my '03 Silverado 5.3L with 5K mile OCI.
Good, cheap, get's the job done. You can't ask for more than that.
