Yesterday, while performing annual inspections, I came upon a room filled with thousands of virgin oil samples. ARG samples every batch of every oil and contracts with this company to store these samples. Many of these were in the typical plastic 10 oz containers, while some were in actual quart containers like you would see in a store. I was surprized at a few of the brand names, which unfortunatly I cannot tell anyone about. I will tell you, as I have before that Castrol was among these. There was one which caught my eye because I had never seen it before. It was a green labeled Castrol syntec 5w-40. By the printing on the back of the bottle, I came to the conclution that it was a Canadian oil. Unfortunatly, the specs listed on the back were covered by another label that had the all of the information regarding the batch of oil for tracking purposes.

Has anyone ever seen green lableled Castrol Syntec 5w-40?

Another thing I found interesting was that this place packages a slip plate additive concentrate. It comes out of a 55 gallon drum from a brand name that I have never heard of and gets repackaged into quart containers that are labeled with a very common brand name.

I run the green labeled Castrol Syntec 5W40 in my 04 Jetta. It's commonly referred to around here as Belgian Castrol cause it's made in Belgium and imported into Canada. From what I can tell from reading on BITOG it isn't as good as the GC.

Different stuff. This is made here in Bradford, PA. The bottle is different colors than any Syntec bottle that I have ever seen before. I can't remember exactly what it said, but there was something about Canada on the back of the bottle that lead me to beleive that this oil was being exported to Canada. I think it said Castrol Canada Inc? This is not the BC that has been discussed here before.

Pablo, You need to consider hormone therapy if a room full of virgin oil samples is more appealing to you then a room full of human female virgins!!!!!!!!! THe only other treatment other then hormone replacement teraoy would be Elctro Convulsive Shock Therapy!!!!

I've seen this stuff at AZ. I brought it up two or three times as CC and no one bit. I thought I was talking to myself ..with myself (yes, we do that, don't we

The back of it says something like "sold under license ...yadayada Canada. It's also bilingual to some extent.

I was referring in the ever non-alluding way to the supposed death benefit of a certain .....re.....n.... if you follow my drift without getting this thread shut down.

I actually thought this thread was about extra virgins in olive oil.

Yup, that's the stuff and I'm biting. I forgot about the different languages on the back (French?). Sorry, I don't frequent the GC area that much because my local AZ doesn't have the stuff anymore. I wanna know what this Canadian Castrol stuff is. I'd call in a favor from some guys at the refinery, but they usually answer with "I don't know, I just put it in the bottle" or something along those lines.

If you can find another bottle of this stuff, please post the specs here. Does it meet VW's specs, etc...?

If I get lucky, I may be able to have somebody get me a few quarts, but I am not gonna hold my breath.

Everything sold in Canada comes in bilingual packaging so the only difference is likely to be the stickers. Some products have bilingual stickers put over the origional labelling.

Nope, same Castrol bottle with a different label - no stickers. The thing that makes this different from most of the other Castrol Syntec 5w-40 is that it is made here in the US. The only Castrol Syntec 5w-40 that most of us have access to is made in Belgium. This stuff is something different and I want some more information. I can't even find this stuff on Castrol's web page. I thought I had found a new oil, but Gary beat me to it.

Castrol is making this hard.

We have:

US Castrol
German Castrol
Green German Castrol
Gold German Castrol
Belgian Castrol

- and now -

Canadian Castrol

And this is just the Syntec line!

Yes, this is obviously an international unilateral assault on our shores. It even has an internal 5th column movement.

When I saw it ..allegedly the only 5w-40 product that was being discussed in the Syntec line was Belgian ...this wasn't Belgian and had no reference to anything other than Canada for it's country of origin.

When I get to AZ next time ..I'll buy a quart and post the images of it ..if it's still around.

Well, I did get to AZ and found the stuff...it's BG 5w-40. What throws you off is that the GC has that neat "made in Germany" right under the 0w-30. It's not there on the 5w-40 ..so your eyes dance around looking for the country of origin. You then see: Imported by/Importe Par: Castrol NorthAmerica yaydayady NJ.
Imported in Canada/Importe p zzzyyzzz

...
made in Belgium

My memory shows something else ..but it was just a snap shot of what I think I saw when I couldn't clearly find the country of origin last time that I saw it. However, my memory shows more of a "Magnetec" green bottle with Syntec logos

That may be the stuff. Too bad I won't have access to the stuff I saw for another year. This is really confusing because this was in a room full of samples that were produced at ARG in Bradford, PA. There would be now reason for an oil made in Belgium to be there

I seem to remember (could have swore) the green bottle/label too ..but there's just enough in common between the two to tell me that I was mistaken the first time.
