I saw the new Integra today!

Bingo. It doesn't need the ridiculous Civic Type R engine, but the Accord's 2.0, even if they detuned it to 220 hp or something, would be better and more class competitive with the GTI et al. As is, the Integra (and Civic Si for that matter) have the mid level Civic's engine with an extra psi or two of boost. Kinda lame.

I think that the 2.4 in the TSX would be a perfect fit.

The car scenes have changed quite a bit since the 90s. I remember back then all the cool kids I know got Integra instead of the Prelude. Modded Civics were popular as well like the Celica. Honestly I don't think outside of the top of the line models, they were really that great in power. Handling wise the Civics could be (and often were) modded to handle just as well but it did not have as much coolness.

The people who were really into handling or power would have driven Eclipse GSX or later on WRX and Evo, or S2000. Today's new Integra IMO is a bit "confused" like a grown up child star. They try to be attractive and decent in handling, powerful enough, but they were not the same sport "compact" people bought them for back then. Adding 2.4 and going from Turbo to a detuned bigger engine would probably make it more like a Prelude than a Civic / Integra. Watching it grow up from a child actor to a full grown up is sort of emotional to me. I wish they sell well, not sure if younger people want to buy sport compact these days so I can't blame them for making it bigger. Maybe the ones who still want sport compacts are buying WRX / STI, or the ones who don't are buying EVs, I don't know.

Panda,

I agree with your point of view.

WRX is a No-Go for lots of people due to all the silly plastic over the wheels and bumpers.

WRX to me is like a Lulu Lemon (athletically attractive), whereas Integra / Civic would be like a low cut jeans + tank top. The fashion trend you know.

If I'm hardcore about sport compact I probably would wait to buy the GR Corolla instead. Sport compact with near luxury but not full blown performance is sort of out of fashion.
