Short one here. Happy 4th of July weekend! 😃

So, people are ranting and raving about the new Elvis movie.

I went to see it.

It was... borderline horrible. Two thumbs down.

It was long, confusing, very strangely weird, Tom Hanks worst character ever, did I mention confusing.. borderline pornographic at about two parts, discombobulated, I walked out a half hour early to get to work on time. Elvis actor Austin Butler can dance but the songs were all over the place.

I'd avoid it. Your review?

Knowing that it was directed by Baz Luhrmann I wouldn't even watch it if it came to TV for free. I watched his film Moulin Rouge and it was one of the worst things I have ever sat through. I guess some people are impressed by his style or the look of his films and for the MTV generation I suppose that is his audience.

The best "Elvis" film was the made for TV one with Kurt Russell.

I've been debating watching the Nicolas Cage one, which may be free.

I wanted my time and money. I bought into the hype.

I'd love my time back.

I'm still not sure what I saw when I went in there and suffered through what I did.. I am just happy I have good taste in movies and elected NOT to see Moulin Rouge which, again, didnt look appealing to me at all. (Same director.)

I will now put him in the category as M. Night Shyamalan and never see another movie of his again.

Didn’t even know there was a new Elvis movie.

Plenty of old and authentic Elvis movies to watch.
Ha ha, so true. I don't know why but whenever I see one of the old Elvis movies on TV I end up watching it. Some kind of guilty pleasure I guess. Especially Viva Las Vegas for the vintage sports cars. And Ann-Margaret. Or Ann-Margaret and the vintage sports cars.

I agree about Baz. Knowing he directed Elvis (and having seen Moulin Rouge), I am not surprised to hear that Elvis is hard to follow.

However, I have to disagree about lumping him with Shyamalan. I have only seen The Sixth Sense and Signs, which I thought were suspenseful brilliance.

I would put Baz more in line with Tim Burton--just a little too weird and out there for my taste.

Ironically, 6th Sense and Signs were his best two films and I liked them both. I call them "Teenager movies." Sixth Sense had Donnie Wahlberg in it. Signs in saw in theatres with my Mom.

There was Ann Margaret for sure. Carolyn Jones was a big looker before she was Morticia Addams. Shelley Fabares too. ..

I can’t remember them all.

We watched it in a lux theater in San Antonio. Enjoyed the old fashioned cocktails, and snacks.

I would say its more of a history of Elvis type movie. I'm 39 and never really knew much about how he came into the business, and I thought it was interesting. I must have missed the pornographic parts, there was nothing in there even boarderline risque.

Any night you can get out of the house and catch a movie and they serve you cocktails and food is a good one.

I'm the exact same age as you and I watched a History of Elvis one made about him and got a better gist.

The first time he was on stage in the salmon colored Beale St suit and they were focusing on the ladies... come on man lol.

Thanks for the review. I love movies in the theatre but will wait this one out to appear on Netflix. Some movies are just downright horrible. Thanks again.

Hey, no problem. My personal opinion, is... having seen Top Gun: Maverick twice (second time was a bit of a yawn, I've compared it to The Gilmore Girls show) and now 2/3 of movie Elvis, which I only stayed as an attempt to pay homage to the $10 I spent.. nothing to see in theatres.

If you like horror, The Black Phone is supposed to be good but I don't like the subject matter of that movie, or those like it.

These are only my opinions.

I'm not planning on seeing this one, not an Elvis fan in the slightest. I did however really enjoy and have seen multiple times three of his films. Moulin Rouge, Romeo+Juliet, and The Great Gatsby. I thought all three of those were fantastic!

I am in my mid 40's - does that make me the "MTV generation" mentioned previously?

I ended up seeing it last night. I enjoyed it overall, although the first half was a little too 'out there.' But once the scene where Parker wants him to sing Santy Claus, it improves tremendously. Great performance by Austin Butler (Elvis), and yet another by Tom Hanks, as Elvis' manager.
