I quite when my wife was about 1 month pregnanat with out first son. He will be 7 in a few months. I had smoked for 10 years and was up to 3 packs a day!! That is right 3 packs a day. I used Zyban for 2 weeks initialy and still smoked my regular amount. Then after I built up some Zyban in my blood i steped down my nicotine useing nicotine patch's. I used the strongest nicotine patch the first week of Zyban, then the medium strength patch for 1 week on the zyban then the weakest nicotine patch for one week. After the week of weak patch's I only used the Zyban. I prayed everytime I got a craveing. I stocked up on celery and carrots etc... I knew I would be snacking a lot!

I avoided or reduced contact with all of my old friends and roomates from college for about 6 months. I also avoided alchol for about 6 months after I quite smokeing! I was afraid that if I had a beer in one hand I would want a smoke inthe other!!! I also gave up Cigars at the same time!

You truly have to treat it like any other addicitons to alchol or any other drug!! I can truely say that I had a "junky" mind set and so did my roomate in College! We would buy nicotine products over food if we had to choose!I still get upset when I think about all the time I let myself be a slave to nicotine! I always told myself I was in control etc...... What a joke!

I quit.................till school starts or I start a new job etc. Soon as ANY stress hits me it's like an evil genious is in control and sends me off to get a pack of smokes. I'm really starting to feel the negative affects. My nose is constantly plugged and it feels like I have tar in my lungs.........wait, I do

I hope once I graduate and get a good stable job that I'll be able to quit easier.

If we all went to $1 ST oil and 1000mi intervals, we MIGHT all be able to quit...smoking.

Yeah, it's great. I leave the house and don't even thing about bringing some smoke. I can fully assert my moral superiority over my buddies too.

GOOD JOB Audi Junkie!!!!!!! It took me DOZENS of tries to finally quit. Glad I did. Clean for seventeen years. Doctor sez my chest x-rays on routine check-ups look OK, but he can tell I smoked. Scary.

Congrat, you made your health and family's health better.

My dad smoked since 17 and as an indirect result I got Asthma and other health related problem. He tried to quit for 4 years and went back, but recently he is on a midlife crisis and decide to stop and enjoy his life with better health (after seeing all the medical bills in the state, he was scared).

So, thumbs up to your courage.

Cool! My dad smoked until he was diagnosed with lung cancer. They caught it early enough that he was here for 6 more years. My brother in law has finally gotten his son to stop smoking. Tomorrow, Nov.1, he will reward his son as promised. He is giving him his 58 Belair. I am happy, but had to tell him that I have never smoked, why didn't he give it to me?

Good Luck!

Still in the early stages, but once I decide, it's a done-deal.

You will be successful. Nicotine is no match for your resolve. Pretty soon you will be tasting food again, as it should taste. Get your car detailed and as much of the stink out as you can. If your house is infected, repaint the interior and shampoo the rugs. The money saved on the 'coffin nails' will cover it.

Never look back, and move on to higher ground. Encourage others to do the same, but until they make the decision to quit and show resolve, they will not succeed. Be an example for them, but not one that preaches that your way is the only way.

Enjoy the freedom!

Congratulations. Im sick and tired of people giving excuses for smoking... like heres some dumb excuses i hear:

1. Everybody gotta die sometimes

2. So? Red Meat is bad for you too.

3. I smoke and I still can run 5 miles

4. yeah I quit smoking,, but now I Dip and chew. its healthier

5. My old mans been smoking for 20 years.. nothing wrong with him....

6. How about that Comedian? He smoked cigars until he was 90 something and he lived that long!

7. So? People who drink tons of water die too.

All dumb excuses.. Smoking is crap . Period.

My old man started smoking in the ROK Marine Corp.. hes had 4 cancer surgeries already, and alot of health problems... hes been smoking for twenty years.

Good for you AJ. Follow Al's example and leave it behind for good.

For those of you who aren't as strong as Al, consider this little gem: a long-time friend of mine is a Neurosurgeon. During the med school years, I recall him describing his lab cadaver, a woman who had been only in her mid 40s, felled by smoking-caused respiratory illness. His description of her lungs is hard to forget. He said her lung tissue looked like goopy black dish sponge material.

Not very scientific, but it made the point, and made it memorable.
