I ordered my Christmas gift to myself.

Honestly, that jacket is very tempting. However, my wife says I don't need it. I won't complain, she let me buy a new Stetson in Tombstone earlier this month.
About 15 years ago, I bought a "Tom Mix" Stetson that I wear now and again. A big hat, like the kind Hoss Cartwright wore on Bonanza.

Most of my other clothes were bought at clearance prices. Now that I am retired, I don't even own a suit or sports jacket.

I just funded $10,000 in 529 plans for kids of deceased friends. I recently paid off $45,000 in left over medical bills from a deceased God daughter who died of cancer at age 41. My wife died last year after a 10+ year battle with cancer. I am in retirement, can afford it, and just thought I deserved something nice for myself.
First, I am very sorry for your loss.

Next, I completely agree, you do deserve something for yourself. If you like the jacket, then buy and enjoy the jacket.

The “reverse virtue signaling” of how little folks have spent on clothes is irrelevant in this case. Those same folks have spent far more on cars, or other depreciation assets, so which cares what you spent on this?

This jacket is a rare piece. So, like a Breitling, or other rare piece, it’s going to cost.

You’ve got the money. Spend it on something you enjoy.

It'd be interesting to go to Denver's 16th St. shops to see what shearling garments go for.
...no "discount outlets" for quality shearling.
I’ve walked in to the Overland store on that mall. $1,200 is about the price tag on a couple of jackets that caught my eye.

This one was nice.

Walk into a Jewelers and see what a new Rolex (or Omega, or even Tudor) costs.

How about an inexpensive, but nicely made, Seiko mechanical dive watch to go with it?

They’re all cheap compared to what folks on this board are paying for new cars.

So, be it a car, or jacket, or watch, or set of tools, let the man spend his money how he wants.

Every single person who has questioned this purchase has spent more money than the OP on some other thing that depreciates, so, let him choose a thing that he wants.

I would never spend that much money on a jacket. But to each his own...
Isn't it interesting how things get invented due to an issue but many years later we still use them? Weren't really warm bomber jackets essential as most didn't have good heat A/C ?
