I Never Use AutoRX or Any Such Stuff

I'm with chevofreak. I find before/after compression numbers extraordinarily persuasive. Getting them is a pain though.

And most of the proponents of the product in question don't perform this test for that reason.

I find that hard to believe.

But I find it easy to believe that a shade-tree mechanic would get inconsistent results between two compression tests.

I took off my valve cover around the 95,000 mile mark and the valvetrain only had a tint of very, very light varnish on it. I used whatever 5W30 engine oil that was on sale at 6-10,000 mile drain intervals, despite the car being used for short trip driving. My oil consumption was about 1 qt every 3000 miles on average, and I always kept the engine full.

I tried Auto-RX because another forum member offered me a few bottles. I tried it, and it didn't decrease my oil consumption. In fact, it made it slightly worse. My engine runs the same as well. So, I'm not convinced that the stuff does anything, at least for my car.

I'm not talking about a compression test. My fuel mileage went up significantly. By around 25%

I was the one who asked for pre and post compression tests! People around here seem to get confused who said what and who showed what picture. Amazing!

Wow, 25%. My gas mileage goes down 60% if I drive with my lead boots on.

WOW, this resembles the thread on M1 supporters.
Whether clean or varnished or even some sludge, who cares if it runs without incident and gets you from one place to another at as little cost as possible. That's the issue! yea yea, RX will make it run more efficient, maybe!

If you have a known sludge monster, like some Toyota engines, I think it only makes sense to have shorter OCI.

As far as being green is concerned, 100% of my used oil gets recycled. I take it to my municipal recycling depot. The engine rinses must use some harsh chemicals that are probably not very environmentally friendly.

I call [censored]. You've been here almost four years and don't know that Auto RX doesn't contain harsh chemicals? You should also know that deposits can form from acids, condensation, or fuel simply from normal engine operation. Come on man. AutoRX may not work for some people. Perhaps your engine IS squeaky clean (or at least the baffle in your valve cover ). That doesn't mean the product doesn't work or is not needed.

The stuff can work. I think I've been here long enough to not need photo's of before/after compression shots with my Auto RX cleaning. It brought up the compression on every cylinder in my '89 Cherokee. The rockers and push rods are awesomely clean and the cast iron head looks new.

I also used it in my trail rig (see sig below) last summer. The poor 150 cubic inches has to move 38" tires. I purposely drove the thing to work every day last summer to reach the mileage for the clean cycle. It's on the rinse phase now with 5W30 GTX and the rockers, push rods, and iron innards are spotless. It idles nice and smooth and my mileage on a trip to the mountains in NH, was about 17 with my wife, two kids, gear and 33" street tires. My only regret is not doing a before/after compression test on it, like the Cherokee. Also, in both cases, the oil filter felt like a brick.

The bottom line: You don't know until you try.

OP here. Agreed, I won't know until I try, and I have never tried an engine rinse.

If I ever end up with a low compression engine, I will try AutoRx and check the before and after compresssion figures. An improvement would be proof that AutoRx works.

Maybe if you do another clean cycle, your car will start MAKING fuel.

After recent events on this board and certain behavior I've seen, I'm not really sure how easy it will be to get money back for Auto-RX, a product you may not be 100% satisfied with, despite its "money back guarantee".

In that case, it should be another point for public discussion, given that the offer has been made publicly on this board.

I do not think that is a fair statement. I have not read any post where someone felt Auto-Rx did nothing and Frank refused a refund. I am sure Auto-Rx works better in some conditions and maybe little to not at all in others. Also many probably do not follow the directions. Some may have had nothing wrong, wanted better mileage and did not get it and thus blamed Auto-Rx. But for many who have a sludged engine or poor compression or leaking oil seals it has helped.

I run it in 2 vehicles now, both in maint mode. In maint mode we are talking about $7.00 per treatment. It really does not have to do much to be worth $7.00 in my eyes.

Can you reference a post where someone said Frank refused a refund?

I have never seen a post that said Frank issued a refund. Perhaps I need to spend more time on here if there were a few such posts.

In my mind Frank is the image of the company, Auto-RX and its products. From recent posts I have seen from him, I would not be able to trust such a company, despite using Auto-RX myself and being on the maint. dose as we speak.

A company image can fall rapidly in the eye of the consumer. In this case and in my OPINION, Auto-RX as a whole has fallen in my eyes.

BTW, I have used Auto-RX in several vehicle with various maintenance history and have not seen any benefit, in any of them, from Auto-RX. I do understand that results may vary. Am I eligible for a refund?

If you haven't seen any benefit, can I ask why you are on the Maint. dose? Not calling you a liar or anything, just curious.

I'm still waiting for the results, hoping the maint. dose will provide some.

Oh I see. Maybe it's cleaning in places you can't see through the fill hole?

Might do the Maint. dose myself. Hope it works out for you.
