My engines have always been sparkling clean inside because I change the oil every 3k to 4k miles. Unless there was some problem like a coolant leak, there really should be no need to rinse out the engine internals if oil changes are kept up with.
If you have a known sludge monster, like some Toyota engines, I think it only makes sense to have shorter OCI.
As far as being green is concerned, 100% of my used oil gets recycled. I take it to my municipal recycling depot. The engine rinses must use some harsh chemicals that are probably not very environmentally friendly.
