I have a 2000 lexus es300 that is basically a beater car. It’s decently maintained it just does not get the best parts and has a good amount of body damage. Its mainly used to run errands and such. Anyway i need to get some new tires on it before i make a road trip on thursday. I like that walmart has good prices on tires and there mounting and balancing is fairly cheap. Im hopeful walmart can get me in today or Wednesday to get the tires put on. I have included a picture of the three tires they have in stock. I currently have the douglas tires on it but i dont like them as the traction and wear is terrible. So you guys can help me choose between the goodyear and the general tires. The car is mostly driven a max of 70 and used a few times a week for local errands so it sits a lot.

Between the Douglas and the Goodyears, you might as well opt for the Douglas as they are made by Goodyear. I have an old Buick which is a daily. Just run cheap tires on it as it is only a local car. Currently running the Douglas tires with zero issues. Smooth, quiet, etc. Only been on for around 5K miles, but no issues so far.

See if they have the kumho lx platinum in stock $62 each same price as Douglas better tire. Snow performance not good everything else is really good for the price a real bargain

I was going to say the Douglas for your use case, but you don't like them. I have run them before on my Grand Marquis. Yes, shorter treadlife, but an infrequently used car would age them out before wearing them out.

I have the very same General tire on my 2012 Mazda3 and like it. It does what I need it to do and hasn't scared me yet.

I'm biased (get it, get it?) towards Generals....The Round Tire (anybody remember that tag line?)

Used tires are bull fertilizer because....
1) IME used tire dealers know they're dealing with chronic cheapskates so they effectively charge just 50 cents less than a new tire and laugh at your weakness of mind.
2) Any real good used tire is plucked from the system immediately. Unless you're near the creamery, you'll get trash.

Then you're buying them from the wrong place. Set of 4 Yoko's off Facebook for $80.

'Of the choices given', I too would go with the Generals.

I'd give the GYs greater consideration, however afaik the Reliant line is a 'made for' WM line. They may be ok, just not sure. I've purchased Yoko 'made for' Discount Tire/AmericasTire tires before, but ime I know they stand behind the treadwear warranty.

I have experience with all three brands you mention but none with those particular models. I trust General more than Douglas or Goodforayear.

Actually you're right atikovi, I bought a set of 4 tires from a widower a few years back. The tires were from his wife's car.

He lived in a marshy region. He failed to tell me a certain bridge was closed for repair so I was late picking them up.

He took $10 off the $100 price. A warm and fuzzy experience it was. Still, that's a private sale well away from the "used tire trade".

Your point is well taken but you just don't find sets of 2 or 4 tires in the size you need without seeking; which is a time suck.

Can't comment on the tire choices, but I can tell you this (at least for the Walmarts in my area)...if they open at 7am (they do around here)...then be there at 6:45am and wait for them to open. I've found that in most cases, if you go after 9am...you may be stuck there well after lunch no matter what service is being done.

You can actually purchase your tires ahead and come in later to install them.

The last time (last month) had some tires put on my Sorento, they even took an appointment which shocked me...I didn't think they took appointments. But again, made the appointment at 7am...was there at 6:45am to make sure I was 'the first' in line.
