I got married in February, so my wife and I are still getting the responsibilities. Yesterday we were talking, and I asked her when she had last changed the oil. She said it was changed when she got it inspected. I said "Summer of last year?" She said yeah, that's not that long right? I said yea, that's a long time.

So, I said my hail mary's. I got a filter, new oil, and used the last of my ARX to try to clean it up. It took a long time because the filter was just too big for my filter wrench. When I got done, and came back inside, she said thank you. I sat her down, and said when you have 60,000 Km on the car, you need to get the oil changed, or ask me to.

Welcome to married life. My wife knows two things about cars. 1. They need gas. 2. How to drive them. Her father took care of her car when she lived home, I take care of it since we got married. I've read and heard stories about mythical women taking care of cars, I haven't met one though.

For mine I'll add: 3. How to ask if an idiot light goes off on the dash.

+1

I have to keep track of her car's odometer since she doesn't look at it.

You need to get your own stack of little stickers to put on the windshield or in the doorjam. You have to take care of it, she will not.

I'm now a fleet manager, six cars and a tractor. Hmmm... need to update my signature...

my wife was really good about car maintenance up until the day we got married and then it was like she got amnesia.

Sounds like mine...lol.

My wife used to work at a service department at a dealership and is well versed in auto maintenance, She likes football and cooks well. She can still be a PITA sometimes but I try to overlook it for those reasons.

Yea, I owned all the checking of oil and changing of oil as soon, as my gal was a girlfriend! She burned out 2 mowers from running them out of oil!

Ok, the question is, how low on oil was it when you changed it...?

Well Im not married but I am responsible for the service and maintenance of my mother 2002 Isuzu Axiom, my father 2008 Ford F150, and personally, my 2003 Hyundai elantra GT. I usually buy, fix, and replace everything with oem parts or something similar in high quality since my mother don't know much about auto mechanics and my father always want to be cheap and not use Motorcraft products to maintain the warranty lol !

You are to blame. My wife doesn't even fill her own gas. It's understood that we are responsible for every aspect of the vehicles -- just like they are responsible for cooking, cleaning, changing diapers, etc.
