I know why people are obese

The inverse to my bank account.

Nobody's shoved any HFCS down my throat. In small amounts HFCS or any other sugar is not a problem for a person who's not insulin resistant. There's no point in just blaming general obesity on one substance and on nothing else. If someone chooses to drink half a gallon soda a day, well, what do the expect?

I mowed the front and back yards with a reel mower yesterday. Within the first 5 minutes I was tempted to stop and mow the grass with my tractor. It's quite difficult when you are out of shape but with some perseverance, it's actually a pleasant task.

Cut the grass and enjoyed a pitcher of mojito afterwards to soothe the aching muscles :)

Good day overall.

My Pa made me cut the grass with a reel mower for awhile. Those were long hot days... It wasn't long after that he purchased a normal mower - that was heaven mowing except for the 5-10 mins trying to start the blasted thing.

Americans are fat because food is too cheap.

Clothes are too cheap. I may consider the nudist lifestyle if clothes cost more all of a sudden.

Fat is cheap. Good food is more expensive. That good food tastes MUCH better, too! People don't know what they're missing by eating cheap stuff all the time (budget allowing of course).

I use a rider tractor.....Then again I have approx 3/4 acre of grass alone to mow....

My old place with a house lot of .10 acre I did have a reel mower. Thankfully I had a nice older neighbor who would sharpen it very often for me as he would use it take care of his 50' x 10' grass strip.

How un-marxist of you! It's society that is to blame. And let's not forget the giant corporations forcing food down our children's throats with their aggressive advertising campaigns.

Well, that would make sense, since I'm not a marxist.
Not saying the large food corporations are particularly interested in providing healthy food for people to buy and consume, but nobody makes you sit on your hindquarters 24/7...and nobosy forces anyone to consume 4000 calories a day.

But we're not supposed to believe we have free will and can have control over their our lives. The latest research says people are forced to eat too much because of a hormone called ghrelin, produced in the stomach. A magic pill will be for sale one day to cure us of that problem.

'Why Americans are Obese'

1. People eat way, way too much fast food and drink way, way too much sugared pop. That stuff is fine if you limit it to one fast food meal a week and maybe like 2 sodas. But plenty of people do it everyday. Sometimes twice a day.

2. Most American's jobs now consist of sitting at a desk. All day. There aren't many people that physically work anymore. The Red Wing shoe company had to come up with a line of casual shoes because there aren't nearly as many Americans that need work boots anymore. The blue collar class keeps shrinking. Working blue collar jobs keeps you in shape. Less physically demanding jobs = more fat a** people.

3. Not enough nutrients and too many anti-nutrients. Seriously, the [censored] that a lot of people eat actually robs the body of nutrients as opposed to adding them. So, someone that's malnourished and fed a diet of trans fat and HFCS is gonna get fat. No doubt.

4. And most people still don't know about the best diet plan ever devised. It's crazy how simple it is. I'm gonna write a book and make millions. It's the next big thing. Wanna know what it is?

*Consume less calories than you burn*

Amazing.

I'm one of these people that sits at a desk most of the day. In some respects, I look forward to doing something outside for a while when I get home. Some of my friends have chastised me for doing manual labor when I have the means to hire someone to do it for me. They call me a cheapskate. (I replaced the roof on my home myself last year).

Some of my friends hold their nose in the air and shun manual labor, and wouldn't be caught dead working around the house because it is "beneath them" and unbecoming of their professional stature in the community. These same people are under a doctor's care for health care problems related to their weight.

And most would do anything to correct the situation.

Well, anything except diet and exercise.
