My neighbor is a relatively good friend and she has taken her car to an "Iffy Lube" since new. You know, the place with decent oil but bad filters? I made her an offer. I told her to forget the Iffy Lube and all she had to do was pay the $20 for a jug of PP 5w-30 and I would pay for the Pure One out of my own pocket in order to make sure her car gets good treatment. Now she tells me she would feel better off continuing to take her car to Iffy Lube. She must have rocks in her head or know absolutely NOTHING about motor oil. I would jump on it if somebody offered me that deal. Comments welcome.

Thanks for the advice. If that's what she thinks then she can go to h*ll.

I don't think she has rocks in her head. By and large (and there are exceptions to this rule), women don't look at cars the same way men do. At least, not the kind of men that hang out on this website. She probably looks at her car as more of an appliance, and as long as it starts and gets her to where she needs to go, she's probably just fine with that. And as long as she keeps up on her oil change intervals, a quick lube kind of place will probably do that for her.

No man gets women, but I'll tell you why she turned you down on your extremely generous offer. Its the same reason why when I owned my own landscaping company I wouldn't help/lend/do favors for friends and neighbors (mom was the ONLY exception). She doesn't want to feel as if she owes you anything and just think if you stripped the drain plug or if you didn't see that the old oil filter gasket was stuck on before you put the new one on. How would your "friendly relationship" end up if she had to get a new engine? Even though the chances are minimal that would happen maybe she enjoys your friendship and doesn't want to jeopardize anything. Don't push the issue, just know that you made a very generous offer and feel good about it.

It has nothing to do with you personally.Over the years Corperations have instilled a sense of security to consumers.

if there is only one thing to learn about Women, it is they like a sense of security, whether good or bad it is a needed factor in there daily routine.

Don't get too worked up over it. Maybe when her car doesn't start in the winter because they used a 20W-50 in her car... she'll come knocking.

JL has 100% credibility based on her personal track record with them. It's not really about the car/lube anyway. Itt's just not a girl thing, more like a guy thing. Let it go.

Who does?

Based upon my wife and other women I know, they think "experts" work in these places and they know what they're doing.

Have you ever seen the average "professional" who works in a Jiffy Lube? LOL! It's a guy who dropped out in 10th grade and doesn't have a clue.

I noticed this was well. Some women don't like to change things they don't fully understand so they stick to a routine they know works.

I was just kidding about my earlier comment. Hard to messup putting in the wrong grade when it says the grade right on the oil cap.

Some of you guys have really made me feel better about the subject. Thank you

I've heard of the dumb sh*ts putting on the wrong oil filter and having all the oil leak out and seize the engine! It happened here two months ago.

What irritates me is when you go to the trouble of explaining to women about the superior qualities of synthetics vs. conventionals and how some filters have better micron ratings than others and they still don't trust you with their oil changes. An earlier poster was right, women have been brainwashed by the big companies.

it's not just women. I had some 0W20 amsoil around (I ordered the wrong grade for a friend) so I offered it to a couple of guys at work (one w/ a honda, the other an acura, both use that grade). they were both like 'nah, I just get it changed at the dealer, whatever they put in is fine'.
most people don't obsess over oil like people here (otherwise, they would be here too!)

I know a guy who has a Hemi pick-up. He takes it to a local garage and doesn't care what oil or filter they use in it.

It's about having the right SHIRT on. If it says Jiffy Lube, you are an expert.

I think expert and professional are 2 different things. An expert is just that, a "professional" is someone who makes a profit and is not interested in the finer points.
