I have not been impressed with Mobil oils

I could give it a shot, however I'm having good luck with Valvoline - but I'm still trying other oils to see what I can get by with and my car likes at the same time.

You car likes anything meeting the grade and quality specified by the manufacturer changed in accordance with the guidance in the manual, or as modified by back-specing, etc. Anything else is typically conjecture, advertising gimmicks, or gut feelings unsubstantiated by facts or common sense- although this formula seems to dominate American politics, so car maintenance is a logical progression.

I no longer use XOM products but I would wager Mobil products are as good or better than other available products. I really can not discern the performance difference between PCMO's in the same grade I have used.

I've used M1 for years although I plan to slowly move away from XOM products for various reasons that have nothing to do with the performance of its products. I believe XOM products are top notch in all aspects.

So Moly, zinc, etc does nothing?

If you are looking to have your car run smoother, give PP (Pennzoil Platinum) a try. I found it to be more quieter than M1 of the same grade.

If that does not work for you, try adding 6oz of Lubegard bio-tech (1/2 the blue bottle) to 6 quarts of oil. It is loaded with Moly and definitely makes the engine run smooth and quiet.

If it was something sarcastic maybe it was a good thing I didn't see it...

Uhh why would it matter? what are you going to do about it...

It was a picture with the caption "I like where this thread is going."

I would check my oil filter before I blamed the oil for a loud initial start up.

I used Pennzoil Ultra for about the first 70K of my FX4's life and then switched to Mobil Super 5000.
  • Could I tell a difference between the two oils? No.
  • Could the engine tell a difference? No.
  • Was the engine noisier or quieter? No.
  • Did the UOAs show a vast disparity in results between synthetic/conventional and calcium-boron/sodium-titanium additive packs? No.
  • Could my wallet tell a difference? Yes.
I think it is nearly impossible to discern the difference between oils when all other aspects are the same, but some may be able to, however, I am not sure that it really means anything in the long run.

I've been very impressed with the AFE line and how it quiets down the Honda 2.4 in the cold.

The only thing one can truly notice is a significant difference in oil viscosity and that would be just on start-up, the rest IMO is placebo effect.
And by significant I mean two oil grades and/or a 60 point difference in VI.

Ive been running mobil oils for the last 16 years in my vehicles. My 07 Accord currently has Mobil Super and it runs just as quiet and smooth as mobil 1. Now last year I tried Quaker State Synthetic. Thought it was a bargin since it was the cheapest brand name synthetic on the shelf, and my accord had a lifter tick at idle when fully warmed up. Then I researched it and found out it was a Penzoil product. Switched back to Mobil Super and no more tick. ??? I think Im gonna try amsoil for the coming winter months.

I think you will like the Amsoil products. They have done well for me in all my apps thus far, with that said, i have used QSUD in the past with good results and i have also used M1 many moons ago without issue.

You have to have a vehicle many years and over a hundred thousand miles to get a feel for smoothness and how an idling engine sounds.

With vehicle 1 valve train ticking can be louder after an oil change.

Vehicle 2 can have smoother idle after oil change.

Is this possible when one always runs the same brand oil and filter? I wouldn't know about that.

x2

I use the 0w30 in our '07 grand caravan with the 3.8L. It has honestly quieted down my startup clack/ticking. I could care less about the 1 mpg difference I loose versus using the 5w20 spec Chrysler changed to in 2007. I ran it in our '08 Saturn Aura for 40k miles and it worked well. Living in Minnesnowta our temps dip well below 0* for weeks on end.
