I'm not one to run my oil longer and use higher micron filters in order to do so like some members here. I care about my car and don't mind spending the money. I don't care who you talk to, but oil is t it's best in the bottle. I'll stick to 3k
Here is a similar condition. Well maybe! I use the same oil in 2 different vehicles/engines and Sixxer use 2 different oils(or more) in the same engine but, here what I'm talking about.
I run the same exact oil(s), which ever brand(s) I have in my stash, and the same OCI's in my 2 cars:
'01 Lexus RX 3.0 V6
'04 Altima 2.5 S 4cyl
Since new they both darken differently. The Altima darkens very quickly and is black at 3K where as the Lexus never gets black even at >3K-5K miles even today(8 & 11 years later).
As mentioned, the Nissan oil gets dark since the 1st OCI. Almost as though I had a brand new dirty engine right from the factory. When the Altima was newer('04-'07) and I was using SL/SM oils, the oil at 3K miles was...Blaahaahaack! Today at 3K, it's just black! Maybe it's more Calcium in the SM/SN oils? It does seem to stay cleaner looking, longer!
On the other hand, my Lexus 3.0 V6 1MZFE(supposed to be a sludger), on a recent OCI I let it go 8 months and 3500 miles, as were just weren't drivnig it often. The oil still looked very good(caramel/brown).
Keep in mind, I use the same oil in both cars and they both get lots of city driving similarly.
