Might not be the exact perfect forum to post this - but it IS lawn and garden - related.

I've tried everything and finally went to Orschelen's Farm & Home supply and got three of those Made-In-USA Victor spring traps with the six razor sharp spikes. Must have a whole herd of them out there because I'm averaging one mole every day for a week now.

Maybe I should buy a few more traps and give them to the neighbors???

My father in law has had moles tearing up his yard every season, he currently has tried spreading lime to make the soil more alkaline. In theory this will discourage grubs and other mole food from inhabiting the soil, and may even make the moles not like being in the soil.

Besides traps, I have also heard of people pouring seven dust into the tunnels with mixed results, as well as crushed lightbulb glass in the tunnels that they will crawl through.

Good Luck!

Yup. Grand dad would dip them in boiling water to remove the hair, dip them in flour, then tempura, and fry them up. Ate them whole, crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside. Sometimes you get a tiny rib or something caught in your teeth, but otherwise good eats.

We had moles on several occasions when I was a kid. My father would drive home from work, park the car on the lawn and leave the engine running, jamb a hose on the end of the tailpipe and stick the other end in one of the tunnels, then go into the house for dinner.

After dinner, no more moles! Now that we have emission controls on cars this wouldn't be as effective - the exhaust is more of an asphyxiant than a poison.

Get some Bayer 24 hour grub killer, it works overnight but goes away in a few days. Also get some Bayer season long grub killer, it last for months. I used it and got rid of my moles asap. Honestly, the the traps, the buzzers in the ground and pellets didn't work. I even tried the punji stick method too. My next step was the "holes of flame" via gasoline if it didn't work...lol.

When I lived in Muskogee, our neighbor Mac would sit in the middle of his yard in a lawn chair with a 44 pistol (and beer) and wait. When he saw movement he would shoot. It works.

A better tool may be "The Judge" or "Public Defender" by Tarus. It shoots 44 long colt or 410 shotgun shells.

Maybe you could unhook an O2 sensor, and keep the engine in open loop? Or, use a lawn mower and mix some "agent orange" in the fuel mix, and then vent exhaust down the hole...

Get rid of the grubs and the moles will go too. Milky spore will last a good while and its and organic. A spreadable bag grub killer will work faster, but you will have to use it every year. You know you have grubs if your have brown spots in late june/july.

Gophers, moles, voles, whatever... here is what you do. Get your push lawn mower or small tiller and remove the muffler. Screw in some galvanized iron pipe. You will need two or three lengths, and a 90-degree elbow or two. Route this down into the hole, and fill dirt in around the pipe at the top of the hole. Fire it up and let it run for 15 minutes. IT WORKS! I do this and it really works.

I hope you were just kidding about the Agent Orange suggestion. It has Dioxin as the main active ingredient. No one in there right mind would poison there soil with it. It is way too toxic for humans to be around, and last way too long.

There was a town that had someone use oil on the roads that was tainted with Dioxin. All of the people had to be moved out, and the entire town had to be abandoned.

I consider myself a bit of an expert in this subject, because I've tried them all, baits, poisons, deterrents, traps... and I know that none of the above works. Or, perhaps they rarely work. These things sell because people buy them, not because they work. We've been conditioned to think we need to run out and buy something to do this...

The best two methods to deal with this are, 1) the fill the tunnel with exhaust method mentioned above, and 2) fill their tunnels with water. But if you try to flood them out, carry a shovel and be ready to bop them on the head when they surface! Notice that these solutions are the cheapest, practically free.

There is one absolute foolproof method, but you have to be a trained professional to use it. The system involves injecting propane into their burrows, and then igniting it!
