Got my Ariens Compact 24 yesterday. Started it up today. It may be a bit quieter than my 8526, but it is easier to manuver with the Auto Turn capability. It also weights about 70 lbs less than my old machine. I won't have to manhandle this one so much. I've already taken the advice given on this forum and replaced the spark plug with the NGK BPR6ES.

My wife listed the old machine on FB marketplace. I went upstairs for about 10 minutes and when I came down, she said 'It's sold'. I said 'yeah, right'. She said it really is. Price agreed on and the guy is coming tonight. Other folks are interested also.

Here is a picture of both machines.

They are nice machines. I've got the black painted sno-tek version built by Ariens. It's a 28" width, with the 208cc sno-tek engine and larger tires. I bought mine from Home Depot about 6yrs ago. It's been awesome for my ~200ft worth of driveway. Starts on the 1st pull every time. The only things I've had to replace on it is the fuel tank cap, the fuel on/off valve and the hose from the primer bulb to the carb. Soft parts are always sketchy on these Chinese engines, which even the high dollar machines have.

I'm fine with a 24" Ariens from the 70s, I re-powered with a Chonda. It is quieter, lighter, gets better MPG, best of all, it starts on the second pull on last yr's gas. It has been perfect for 6 yrs. I just wish it would get fluffier snow to throw.

They look like nice machines, due to space I've been looking at the Compact 20".

Keep us posted after you've used it a bit.
Bought one used last spring. Only used a few times, owner was spending winters in FL.

We have a 2014 Honda 928 track as well. Capable but big for city use and hard to move around. Up north we have an Ariens RapidTrak Pro.

I downsized a number of years back for no other reason than my wife finding the clearance between the snowblower and her car being too tight to navigate. Now that being said, the Ariens Deluxe 24 is also a far better machine than the Yard Machines (MTD) 26 that it replaced. The original Torch plug was a problem but all has been well since that was replaced with a NGK Iridium.

The only thing that bothers me about the Compact is its relatively small displacement 179 cc engine. That's unlikely to be a problem in York but we occasionally get "the big one" here 1-1/2 hours ENE of you that dumps 20+ inches. The 254 cc engine in the Deluxe makes short work of that.

It seems that we are overdue for "the big one..."

I have a 10 year old Troy Bilt (MTD) 24" snow blower with a 179cc engine. The engine is definitely lacking in throwing heavier wet snow. Some years ago I added an Impeller Kit and it made all the difference in throwing heavier wet snow or lots of snow. Amazon sells them for around $35 for a kit, could be more now. It is well worth the small investment to improve the snow blowing/throwing ability of the small engine.
