I've done 2 oil changes this week on customers cars. Both customers brought me the Orange can of doom.

It's simply too much trouble to send them back to the parts store because I don't like the filter they bought.

After wiping the threads(they were both clean) I put as much oil in the filter as possible and screwed the Orange filter on! I kinda digg the rough surface on them. Makes tightning them up easy.

Both customers brought aceptable oil brands so we are good there.

I just bought one for my friend's Audi, he runs whatever I give himand I did not want to go out of my way for it. $3.50 at WalMart. They have a TG if I wanted that too, $5.50. It's just not a big deal for a plain old car to use a Fram.

Its not a big deal to use it on a new car.

Frams are the biggest sellers of oil filters.

If they were so bad, there would be thousands of cars along side the road every day all across the US.

Better filters out there? Maybe. For the $$? Sure, but they work and protect the engine just fine.

Take care, Bill

Yeah, I doubt there is much if an issue, if any, t using the Fram filters. THey may have cardboard endcaps, but Id bet they put as much money int their media and engineering as purolator or any other main brand.

I dnt use them because they caused a startup knock in my engine on my truck. Coincidence related to quality??? Maybe. I dont want to be the guinea pig.

But I dont want to imply that they are significantly inferior to any other brand without data (beyond cardboard endcaps). If this data exists en masse, then Ill be wrong...

+1 to that!

*** you can pay an exorbant amount of mullahs for exotic oil filters but to common joe's eyes: fram should work just fine.

This is really doubt. Now if you said, "In their low-ball offerings" ..then I'd say "maybe". I feel confident that the standard orange can is the absolute minimum standard that can be gotten away with ..and then their process variable will probably be broader than others and they probably have a liberal PASS:REJECT standard.

In all honesty the most important filter is the air filter and sealed intake because from experience that is the filter that has the most effect on an engines life. Unless the oil filter fails and causes engine failure any oil filter with reasonable oil changes and proper care and operation will allow a long engine life. I would add though the orange can is not a top of the line filter.

I too do oil changes for friends. If they brought a Fram filter with them, I wouldn't make them take it back. I may make a suggestion to them to that there are better filters out there for the price so they know next time. It helps to be tactful.

There is nothing wrong with Fram filters....

Like the 20-weight oil argument, if Frams were as bad as people on here say they are, the road would be littered w/cars dead b/c of them....but it isn't!

When cheap filters and cheap oil makes one of my cars die, then I'll quit using them. So far everything's been fine. What matters is that I have oil and a filter, not really what kind I use.

Because most people are sheep.

If it's #1 in the market. it must be good.

You should talk to my Surgeon about beer (or any drinking) and how much more difficult it makes his job (and your recovery).

Glad I never have!

He asked me of my habits and said that he will be able to tell if I was telling the truth.

When they take your Gallbladder out they nick (cut) your liver. People who drink often have some issues, people who drink way too much have MAJOR ISSUES.

The photos that they show you are not pretty.. (to be honest with you, they took photos of my liver and gallbladder (inside me and out on the table) and they both looked not so good to me...

Good thing my liver gets a vacation while I am working two or more weeks straight a month. I can drink alot of beer while I am off but after I work a hitch, just one has the desired effect.

I would, but my local Wally's World stopped selling the one I need.

I can run a supertech or a Motorcraft fl 400s on either of my vehicles..I was surprised that my Jeep and Toyota share the same filter requirmeents.
