I had Collinite 476s and bought some of their Insulator Wax #845, after reading here about using both products together. I tried it on my 08 Jeep in preparation for winter, I had the energy today and figured I'd run with it.

I had washed it and clayed it a while back and gave it a once over with Color-X, so it was well prepped. I washed it this morning and gave it a coat of the 476s, took a short break and went over it again with the Insulator Wax. All I can say is WOW this thing looks better than it did when it was new. The 476 is a little bit of a PITA to work with. But once it is on the 845 comes off with ease. I could have used the 845 first and the 476s would have come off easier, but I wanted the more durable product as the base coat.

I might give it one more coat of the 476 in November and that should easily get me through the winter. I'll say it is an awesome combo for anyone who really wants to spend the time.

I've been impressed with the Collinite products. The durability and beading of water from the 476 amazes me.

Nobody has ever heard of it down here and I've never seen it sold anywhere. Without the yanks here, I'd never have known about it!

What color is your car?

I tried Collinite 915, which is supposed to be glossier than the 476 and 815 products. I was not impressed with its appearance on pearl white paint.

On the other hand, I applied a coat of Duragloss #105 onto the Altima this weekend with a LC CCS grey pad and my mom told me that the paint appeared noticeably glossier. She has never said that before. Even I thought the appearance was much better with Duragloss than Collinite.

My Jeep is Silver, that is the vehicle I did the two coat "process" to. I've used the 476s on black, and midnight blue metallic as well, and the results were great. OTOH when I had a white Caprice it was hard to tell the difference between any of the products I used on it.

I keep meaning to try Duragloss but have not seen it anywhere as of now.

I really like the Insulator Wax, it goes on easier and comes off easier, but the trade off is it doesn't last as long. At least that is what I was told. I buy this stuff from a pro detailers shop that deals with the trade as well as car dealerships and these guys are quite knowledgeable so it seems.

I've used the 476 on silver and sand colored. They turned out great. I've done good wax jobs before with other waxes, but the 476 left it feeling softer and glossy feeling like none other I've used.

How long does the 845 insulator wax typically last?

I read about the 476s and 845 combo here, so I gave Collinite a call and asked some questions. Great people to deal with!

Anyway they said the 476 should last about a year, the 845 about half that. The 845 is much easier to use though.

I asked about which I should use first the 476 or the 845, and the guy was very honest. He said if I called back half an hour later and asked someone else they'd tell me something different. This is what I was told FWIW. The 476 is a more durable product, and the person I spoke to felt it was best it went on first, then got top coated with the 845. He also said if I did it in reverse it would be easier to remove the 476 if it went over the 845. He felt the way I did it would last longer and give better results, but that is based on opinion not facts.

I might try the 845 then the 476 on my E-150 since I have a lot more area to cover and I'm lazy. Great product, and good people to deal with!

As a side note, one of the reasons I respect them is their honesty, something that is tough to find in companies today. I asked him about using a cleaner, and he suggested Color-X because I already had it in my stash. He didn't push their product he said Color-X would do a good cleaning of the paint if I wanted to do that first. He did say his product would produce a better finish and last longer though. That was the truth too!
