I committed three BiTOG automotive no-no's

OK, Ok I have a confesssion to make too.
I changed my oil last month, but DID NOT put the front end up on ramps! It is possible that I missed getting nearly 8 OUNCES of oil out using my top side changer! On top of that, I did NOT change the oil filter! Well I did look at it since I can remove it from the top, and it looked OK (?).
😔

At 71 I am not bench pressing Turbo 400's into FireChickens any more. I use a MityVac and swap the filter every 2nd, or Heaven forbid, 3rd service. I have ramps, 3 floor jacks and good jack stands for use when needed.

I service our cars, friend's and family's cars. Cabin air filters are from Amazon and wiper blades are from Costco.
I am a cheapskate.

Yeah, it happens. The oil change pricing is on par with most dealerships, but I’d be more concerned about an overtightened drain plug & filter, brand of oil, etc…
Since you did get a free cup of coffee, we forgive you.

Yep...No hope for you.. You goin' straight down, buddy! 🫣

I’ve never had my oil changed by someone else, except with my current Genesis. It’s a nightmare to change the oil on and I’m keeping the service records squeaky clean for the extended warranty.

My dealer usually has a package of 3 oil changes for $160, though that seems to have disappeared from their website. $110 each now . We’ll see, I’ll need one in a couple weeks.

Took my vehicle to the dealer for an oil change. Service writer came to the lounge with my engine air filter.
It was kind of (not bad) dirty. so I said stick a new one in while it is out. (and I had a new one at home)

They charged me $25 to install the new filter.
Joke was on me and a learning experience. 😲

A year ago my friend Debbie, who owns the i8, asked me to help her adopted daughter as the Toyota dealer wanted over $2000 for what ended up being an oil change on her newer RAV4 hybrid. I looked at the exhaust and rotated the tires, just like their work order said.

A jug of M1 0w16 and a Toyota filter for the win! I think we might have gotten heavy and swapped the cabin air filter as well...

One time when I was at the dealer, they changed out the cabin filter on my Honda Accord and wanted $80 for it. I can change the cabin filter on my Honda in less than 5 minutes, and a perfectly good brand name filter costs about $20. So I told them I didn't ask for that and they should put my old one back. They took it off the bill.

The dealer changed the transmission fluid in the manual transmission on my Toyota Solara though I hadn't asked for that. It had almost new Redline synthetic fluid in it. I made them dump the conventional fluid they had put in and replace it with Redline synthetic fluid. They took it off the bill too.

Neither of these items was mission critical. I don't mind a shop saying my vehicle should have some service, and if it's sensible I will often agree. But they should ask before they do it.

I changed my own oil and washed my own car from 16 yo to 34 yo. Then I had one kid, then another. Then we moved from rural north Florida to south Florida's suburbs. Two kids, less space and time, I pay for oil changes from a local shop now (family owned).

Car washes? Pshh with two kids under five years old I don’t have time. Auto car wash on the new car and yes swirls! Not ideal but work and family have taken priority. When my oldest hits the right age maybe we will change oil and two bucket wash the car together. It’s no sin, life changes your priorities.
