I committed three BiTOG automotive no-no's

I've been a member here for 20+ years and l will confess that l recently did three things that have always been frowned on here:

1. Paid $119 for a synthetic oil change at the dealership.

2. Allowed dealership to upsell me on a cabin air filter for $59 followed by a "cleaning" of the vents for another $100.

3. Took the car through an automatic car wash.

I guess l am getting old because l would have NEVER done #1 and 2 when l was younger. I used the excuse that it was "too cold" to do it myself. But at least l got a free cup of coffee at the dealership.

Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do.
In my case, I go to an independent Honda specialist who will do 2 OC's for less than you paid for one.
Plus, I do my own CAF's, with some coaching from You Tube, after I stop at the World of Wally for a CAF.
Auto car washes are a way of life for me.
That comes with being a seasoned citizen.

I would like to see what the vent cleaning process is? Run some long swiffer type thing in them while the cabin filter is out? Or maybe its nothing...

Usually a spray can, turn the blower on hi, and spray it into the air intake.
Takes 3 minutes, and $4 worth of product.

The vent cleaning is the only thing I can really be critical of. A can of BG Frigi-Fresh is $18 on Amazon and will service multiple cars.

I bought a Dealer Demo 2023 Silverado. It came with enough superficial scratches on the BLACK paint. Other than using the automatic car wash (assuming it wasn't brushless) I don't disagree with your decisions. I have had dozens upon dozens of dealership service visits-all without issues.

I do too on 2/3 cars. Both have monthlies and yes swirls. It’s not practical to hand wash in the winter. My main concern is salt.

But admittedly if I had say a AMG or BMW M or Porsche, I would not run that through a wash. Sometimes we simply need to be practical.

I got no problem with #3. I know the dude at the Car Wash. He lets me take the truck through 3 times, pay once. Finally it comes out clean. No they don't use steel brushes and their filters appear effective.

Daily Drivers (Due to job, replaced every 4 year or less)
-Dealership oil changes per OLM
-Automatic car washes

Non Daily Drivers
-Self oil change, obessive OCI
-Two bucket wash method, foam cannon, polish, ceramic coat.

Im am 77 years old and took my Toyota Avalon V6 to the dealer for the spark plug change this week. Had always done them on other cars myself but just decided that my intake manifold removal days are over. I guess I am lucky that I seem to have a pretty good dealer to work with. At least he has never tried to upsell me and his prices are high but not outrageous.
