Thanks BITOG!

I now have the itch to try a "fancy" oil.


I'm thinking about dumping the stash of NAPA syn I have on the wife's Car (hers runs M1)and buying something else for my Cav.


The only pretty much only gets changed twice a year on this car. I've thought about having a liitle more "fun" with this car (learn to auto X), so I think I can spend a little more on my "baby".


And the Ecotec seems to love it's syn.



I'm thinking either Amsoil or RL. (leaning more toward AO though).



Should I? Which one?


I mean I could go M1, but something wants me to try the good stuff....

Amsoil is a bit easier to grab I think than RedLine. Both are fine oils though.

Hard to beat Redline. As has been mentioned it is hard to come by. I'm biased as Im a huge redline fan and have used it for years. Can't go wrong with amsoil here either, although in that category I would just opt for Mobil 1. Their oils are more comparable.

Either will be fine, I think it comes down to what you want out of it. Ultra long 15,000+ OCI, Amsoil. The absolute best protection under harsh conditions, Redline.

Getting Redline is as easy as going down to Autozone and having them order it for you or ordering it online from the many sources. I got mine from Jegs, $50 for 5 quarts with shipping.

Well I meant easy as in go out and buy it off the shelf. Some places actually carry stock of Amsoil(Haledon Auto Parts in North Jersey does). It's the only place I know of but I have heard small auto parts stores carrying it. You can order both online, just a matter of waiting for that lovely oil to arrive and then you can start to bathe in it with your rubber ducky....

I autocross my Neon and my only real oil concern is foaming causing pressure loss. Also I guess some stout additives too as its not uncommon to be at full throttle at lower rpms either. Often holding 2nd gear is faster than shifting down to 1st for a tight section.
I imagine redline has antifoaming and additives for preventing damage even if the oil wedge has failed.
Personally I run rotella T 15W40 as I think its got all the additive goodies at a fraction of the price and no energy conserving rating in the API circle, but I have no burning desire to spend alot on oil for my 15 year old beater...

Yep. I can get amsoil in a few places around here...depending on what I want.

Haven't seen RL anywhere local though...

Amsoil 2x at 60 bucks an OC. (50 oil/10 filter)

M1 2x at 32 bucks an OC. (22 oil/10 filter)



Is my car worth an extra 28 bucks a year?
