So can I put 1 quart each of the top brands and make a cockail?
Syntec, Synpower, PP, M1EP? for the Yaris? Will it gel and explode? Would make an interesting UOA.

Do it over the life of the car and give us tear down results. It would be interesting to see how all of the conflicting add packs worked with/against one another.

What ever you use stick with it and it will work better for you over the long haul. Many here are uncertain as to what oil to use so they stash several different brands of oil and switch all the time. They get varring UOAs and womder why. Don't mix formulations, the end result is better. IMO.

Nobody will be able to say if that will work well or not, even the manufacturers of the oils.

I'd say you'll probably be fine. Will you be better off than just choosing one? Probably not.

Why would you not make price your deciding factor?

I'd mix all of them since the Yaris motor is a hard on oil.

With all of them, you'll get the best of all the brands. 2x, 4x, 8x and all the cleaning.

Maybe you'll even get more than 40k out of this motor?

For a yaris I would just use Castrol 5w20 as I think thats what toyota says to use. I would change the MT fluid if you have a manual to whatever the amsoil eqivilant is because my friend has one and it shifts horrible! I bet som syn in there would smooth it out maybe.

Is it just me, or isn't the Yaris the very small Toyota eco car that is based on the Scion xa? I mean, you are in NH so a 0w or 5w syn would be good for cold starting but are you wanting to do 10k+ OCIs or something?

I'd run 5w20 dino (PYB, Castrol GTX) and do 6-7k OCIs and be done with it.

The Yaris 1.5L 1nzfe is an advanced engine with high specific output - 4v, chain driven DOHC, FLAT tappets, variable valve timing with intelligence, ST-Steel tube headers. 105Hp, 5sp M and 2300 lbs make for a peppy ride. NO one oil I have tried has worked exceptionally well. The best so far has been Motul 8100 econergy 5w30 SL. Wanted to try Motul xmax or Elf/Total quartz energy 9000 but didnt want to mail order ... Trying American "syns" again. I've been down the PP and GC road and was nonplused.

-70hp/l : 95% of 4 cylinders out of Japan/Korea
-4 vales per cylinder: 95% of 4 cylinders out of Japan/Korea
-some form of variable valve timing and/or lift : 75% of 4 cylinders out of Japan/Korea
-DOHC : 60% of 4 cylinders out of Japan/Korea
-headerS: 0.0% of 4 cylinders out of Japan/Korea

Not sure why this engine needs super expensive synthetic oil to run properly....otherwise, Toyota has failed.

The average person who buys a $15k car that gets 40mpg is not going to maintain the vehicle particularly well....or if that is too presumptuous, let's say they won't go out of the way enough to look at oils that are costing $10+/qt.

1ZZFE in my Corolla has 1.8l, 130hp, 4 valves, Variable valve timing, DOHC and steel "headers"

(its a manifold).

146k miles so far on anything that has API SL/SM and it runs like new. 45.39 mpg on the last tank.

Guess I should be using syn all the time too then.

Dude, NOTHING special about yours or my motor. Yes it has a chain which shreds the oil but nothing new.

ANY OIL WILL WORK JUST FINE.

Really!

Bill
PS: Mine weighs 2400lbs and has 130 hp. It is not a Corvette killer. Neither is a 2300lb/105hp Yaris...

::slaps his [censored] with a dipstick and yells:: THINK WITH YOUR DIPSTICK BILLY!!!!!Sorry that lame Castrol commercial was just on tv, its kind of makes me not consider CAstrol the advertising is so stupid...

I know it's not the same engine but my friends are running Amsoil SSO 0w30 for 25K Miles (40K KM) in their Matrix with excellent UOA's.

You might try Amsoil's product, even if you don't go that long.

I blame current oil formulation and requisite 'economy' grades. My wife drives conservatively and has killed her last 2 engines at 50-60K. One Suzuki 2L and one 2.4L 2azfe. Just trying to keep the lil bugger alive, given it sticks its T-chain A LOT with dino. We both drive sticks exclusively FTR. Again, why no 4719M on the castrol syntec 5w30? Whats wrong with the oil?
