I can hardly believe it

When I heard that the New England Patriots had been caught cheating in a game against the New York Jets I could hardly believe it. The Patriots and their coach have had great respect from me for a long time. Now that respect seems badly misplaced.

Why would they even need to cheat against the Jets? You would think they would save the cheating for a game and a team that they would really have to worry about. Surely without cheating they had a very good chance of beating the Jets. Not putting the Jets down but the Jets do not have the team that the Patriots have.

And now it comes out that the Patriots are suspected of cheating in other games. My mental image of the coach of the Patriots as being such an awesome coach has been wrecked. And my repect for the Patriots organization has been badly damaged.

Of course, maybe this kind of cheating is actually common in the NFL. I don't know. But a truly great team should not need to cheat and a truly great organization should be able to rise above all of this kind of stuff.

The Patriots and their coach now have to live with their new image. I hope they enjoy that new image.

It's all about the benjamins. I read a story a few years ago where they caught CEO's lie on their resume by putting Harvard MBA, Stanford MBA. when they never went to grad school. Remember that coach at Georgia Tech that got hired at Notre Dame and he lied on his resume too saying he had a Master's degree. They promptly fired him the next day.

Apparently they had some guy with a camera on the New York Jets sideline pretending to be a photographer taking photos of the game. Actually he (or she) was taking photos of the defensive formations that the Jets were using. Then the Patriots knew exactly what defensive formations the Jets were going to be using. No wonder Moss caught 9 passes!

The Patriots are also suspected of cheating in at least a few other games. Some of those teams were also not the best NFL teams so why would the Patriots even need to cheat in those games? With all the rsik of getting caught if you are willing to cheat why not save the cheating for the really big games?

I lose interest if I think there is cheating. If a game is rigged why watch it? They had the big scandal in basketball (which I don't watch-I think it is boring) and now pro football is going down the tubes. Of course maybe cheating is commonplace. Maybe everybody does it. Somehow to me however it seems that a truly great team and a truly great organization would want to win on a level playing field. But maybe thinking like that is oldtime.

All I know is that I have lost respect for the Patriots. They should give the victory in that game to the Jets. And they should take several draft choices away from the Patriots. Send a message.

Luckily, nobody ever cheats in car racing. Nascar, F1, CART, they're all really clean! Nobody ever bends the rules, much less breaks them.

Is it professional ?

Then they are cheating.

Look at the F1 news of today. $100M fine, and loss of constructors points.

Because others cheat, it does not make it right. Like I tell my kids, lie carefully, cause when you get caught I'll make sure you want to tell the truth next time. You want to cheat- go ahead, if you get caught don't whimper and whine about the harsh treatment. Anyone else ever notice how much better they did in the second half of their Super Bowl victories? I loved Floyd Landis as well- don't respect him either.
