Yesterday, because I was bored and had some time to kill. I wanted to know what their best selling motor oil was. This is what the tech told me. Reg Mobil 1 10w30 is their best selling motor oil. He said they sell 10 qts of this to every 1 qt of all their other oils. And no, I did not tell him that is what I use. Does this sound right to you guys?

In the part of the country where I live I would say that is very accurate. In fct, I would say that 10w30 of all brands far outsells anything else.

I think I read somewhere, maybe on this board that 10w30 was still the #1 selling oil.

That is surprising to me. 10w30 is quite a ways down my popularity list. I would have to say I sell 20 5w30 oil changes to 1 10w30 oil change and Sig Series 0w30 would have to be 8 to 1 10w30.

I figured 5w30 would be the most popular by far.

I honestly think it is regional and sometimes it can be comical. I took a car to have the tires rotated and balanced and while I was there a middle age, very well dressed lady came in driving a PT Cruiser. She wanted an oil change and she remarked to the service manager not to put any of that zero junk or that 20 junk into her new car. The service manager told her she didn't have anything to worry about as he only used 10w30.

You should have called and asked them when their supplies of Mobil 1 will come back up from hurricane Ike!! there was literally less than ten quarts combined of mobil 1 and mobil 1 EP for 0w-20. 5w30, 10w30, 10w-40, 15w-50 at walmart

Most of the quickie lube places around me advertise oil changes for $16.95 or $19.99 etc... for "most cars". What they mean is that they'll use their bulk 10w30. When you ask for 5w30 or 5w20, you'll then pay the per quart price ... sneaky ...

Thats overall?

I can see that. They probaly include bulk oil sails in that aswell.

Most shops and even dealers

use a "one size fits all" 10w30 bulk oil.

And thats perfectly fine. 10w30 will work just fine in any automobile made and they know this so thats what they use.

Cutehumor- Yeah, I find this odd. Both of our Wal-Marts are out of M-1 oils. Both of our Advance Auto Parts and AutoZones are very low. However, last night the wife and I were at Costco and they put out 5 pallets of M-1. 1-15W-50, 2-5w30's, and 2-10W-30's. I have no idea where they are getting it, and it is not old stock.

I just got back from Walmart to buy some groceries, and they had a full newly-stocked shelf of M1 10W30 and 15W50 silver cap quarts.

10w30 in a 5w30 application won't hurt it.

Many mechanics that I know (non oil geeks) yell at me for using 5w30 or 0w30 in my cars.

Most of the public does not change their own oil, so mechanics put in bulk 10w30..

10w30 does seem to rule the roost. Most people I know use it, especially here in the south where it's thought that thicker is better in warmer climates.

I find it funny here in the forums people constantly arguing over 5w30 or 5w20, but in the real world it's generally 10w30 vs 20w50.

No more 20w-50

The v6 mustang I used to own could easily trip the speed limiter when it was new. After about 80,000 miles of 20w-50 it would only go that fast down hill, and with a tail wind.
