I accidentally put 9,000 miles on my 1st Valvoline Restore and Protect interval so you don’t have to!

So at around 110,800 miles I changed my oil in my 2016 Volvo XC90 T6 to Valvoline Restore & Protect, mainly due to a known piston ring issue with these engines and I want to do what I can to avoid any issues or prevent any. Life happened, super busy with work and now today at 119,720 miles I drained and filled to my second interval with R&P 5W-30.

The “plan” is to drain and fill at 5,000 miles for my third oil change with R&P. UOA of the 1st interval coming soon.

2016 Volvo XC90 T6
Engine B4204T27
Filter: Wix WL10241
Miles at switch to R&P: 110,800
Miles at 2nd R&P: 119,720

Yeah not a real dirty engine by the looks of it, I remember running VRP for I think it was roughly 3500 miles which is what I average and it was still semi transparent. I was a happy boy.

I was surprised since the first change to VRP was the first change I've done on the car since buying it 1.5 years ago. The oil was black but not surprising. We'll see what UOA says.

What grade of oil? Do you plan to dry out the media to check it?
Sorry, 5W-30

Is Blackstone not reputable?
Maybe a decade ago, save fuel estimates which have never been a good source of legitimate info.

Lately, they’re reputable for sky-high costs, long processing times, and results that are wildly out of line with other labs’ results on the same oil change. Try OAI, CAT, NAPA, or WearCheck next time. At least you’ll have something to compare to. 👍🏻

This would be an interesting case - at what point does VRP oxidize and start to overwhelm the deposit removing capability reducing its claim to fame. VRP is intended for OEM drain intervals. 9k isn't too bad though.

I wouldn't go beyond 5K on any oil unless it's strictly highway use. I think on VRP I wouldn't touch a dime over 5K either way. I wouldn't want to see what happens once the oil starts to break down lol

How much oil did you have on the oil dip stick after 9K miles?
It won't be bad idea if you next oil change at about 3,000-4,000 miles. Instead of 5K or over.
No dipstick, only an oil level indicator in the infotainment screen. Level was around 85% I’d guess, didn’t top off at any point during the interval.

That’s a shame, I only really used them because I requested a kit forever ago and decided to give it a try now that I had remembered I had it.
