It is (usually they leave the brand badge and just remove the trim level so people might think it is a higher trim than it actually is).

This isn't DE-badging though, it is RE-badging.

Subaru Impreza with "I" badge replacing the Subaru pleiades badge
Nissan 240SX with Silvia badges and bodywork
Lexus IS300 with Altezza badges

Yes, but those are all keeping with the same brand/brands. The badges shown above by both myself and another poster appear to have no connection to Hyundai or any marque really

Its because people are embarrassed to spend $60k+ on a Hyundai and have to associate it with their cheap models.

Toyota pretty much already wrote the play book on this, Hyundai just needs to create its own Lexus brand and be done with it.

I've only seen the one's associated with Hyundai/Kia...

The Genesis Wings
The KIA K

I have no idea what the one OVERKILL posted is nor have i seen it on the requisite forums.

I posted this earlier in the thread but in case you missed it, plenty of examples here:

...and i belong to that Forum LOL.

To be fair though, most of the guys who commented about that emblem were critical, wanting something that retained brand recognition, not that abstract design. I don't see a ferver to distance themselves from the marque as much as just wanting to personalize their vehicle. In other words...Kids, Whatever floats their boat.

Quite true, and I also appreciate the difference.

In the old days we typically removed ALL badging and decals, etc., from our hotter street cars. We called this "sanitizing". The intent was to camouflage the true nature of the car and thus other street racers would have trouble evaluating the performance capabilities of the car.

I have already removed all the lettering and badging from my new Ram. Looks better than a rolling billboard, IMO.

Re-badging is something new to me, I have always felt it was a simple attempt to foll folks into thinking your car was better than theirs...

That doesn't help when you buy it of the lot.

Add Nissan coupes to the list of debadged cars too. The previous owner of my car took off the Nissan logo on the back, replaced the front grill without Nissan logo too. I have to say the front grill on my car does look a lot better than the stock one.. Only place to tell its a Nissan is the Altima logo on the top right rear end of the car... Most people think its a G37.. Which it does favor a good bit.

I see tons of Chevy trucks with a black decal (or something) over the Chevy emblems front and rear. Some sedans, too.... Mostly Malibus. I suppose a black logo looks "cool" but when you pass yourself going the other way, in your black-logo truck... Is it still cool?

I own a Cobalt SS, and the expectation amongst the Cobalt community is that most owners remove all their badges entirely. I've talked to more than other SS owner (or forum member) who didn't realize I was "one of them" because my car still has its badges. I suppose my motto should be: "Dare to be different, Stay stock!"

Yeah, I don't like the "debadged" look. I know what the car looks like; suddenly seeing one with a blank grille or trunklid with no logo is like seeing someone with no nose. Sure, a face might look OK without a nose, maybe even beautiful, but when the other 7 billion people on earth have noses, seeing one without just looks "odd".

Just my opinion.

Some folks with 1.4 turbo engine Cruzes add on the "turbo" emblem from the 1.4T Sonic. If they did that it usually means the car is also tuned and will now keep up with a 4-cylinder Camry.
