Hyundai maint pkg... great experience.

2014 Sonata 2.4L

Although i recently changed the oil at home, i dropped off the Sonata for a recall Sat and they changed the oil under the maint package i rarely use. After they finished, the Tech called me over to inspect the oil level, cleanliness of work performed and go over the recall and oil change paperwork (not just hand me a receipt and kick me out). It was a really professional experience that has changed my mind about using this pkg that was thrown into the purchase of the vehicle.

Out: Castrol Magnatech 5w20 / NapaGold 1334
In: Dealership bulk (Quaker State Conventional or Formula Shell) 5w30/OEM

I have this package until 36,000 miles. I'm just gonna stick with it for now on and stop buying oil for a while.

That's like saying you love McDonald's Corporation because you had a good experience at one store. Hyundai doesn't own the dealers. One might be good and another one 20 miles away might be terrible.

Perhaps Hyundai have realised giving good after sale service is great for snagging repeat buyers and getting word of mouth recommendation customers through the showroom door.
A lot of the busy independent repair shops local to me don't need to advertise, their customers keep coming back because they trust them to do a good job for a fair price.

Of coarse there are bad dealerships and they want a good survey. We get so caught up in venting our poor service experiences that when someone shares a good one, some people have to find holes.

Thats when you continue to go to the store that gave you the good experience.

Did they at least ASK you if you wanted an oil change? What if you just changed the oil 5 days prior with Amsoil or Royal Purple? They would have dumped $40-50 worth of oil and replaced it with bulk dino without asking first?

Yeah, they took out Magnatec full synthetic (somebody said the 5w-20 is full syn) and put in dino. That Napa Gold oil filter was a better oil filter too. Oh well. No real harm done, just not cool.

They didn't ask but the overall experience was so good that i'm ok with it. I also wouldn't say the OEM oil filter is inferior to the NapaGold. Not saying it's better either, but it is an excellent filter in terms of construction and testimonials (efficiency not know).

I recently used the local Hyundai dealer (I didn't purchase from) to do a state vehicle inspection and they did the same thing--explained that they did the "multipoint" inspection, state inspection, checked for recalls, updates etc. AND they washed the car! They've done this same routine the other times I've been there--I think Hyundai has standardized the customer service in North America. . . . they still try to push extra maintenance items at times, but they're not aggressive about it. For the most part I'm happy with the two Hyundai dealers I've dealt with.

Glad they treated you well but I'd have been bummed about the Magnatech. I don't have mine in yet for a while. How did it run for you? Any impressions?

800 or so miles. Ran smooth. Pretty much like anything else.

+1 I would have freaked out. If I was in for warranty service, all I'd want done was the work I brought the car in for. No freebies, car wash, nothing else. In fact I'm glad I read this thread, if I ever go in for dealer service I'll make sure they write on the R/O not to do anything other than the work the car was brought in for. NO OIL CHANGES, CAR WASH, ETC.

Well the Toyota dealer changed my oil without at 5k miles when it should've just been tire rotation. Oil change at 10k. I had unfortunately just changed it about 500 miles before because I didn't want factory fill to go the first 10k. I just wrote it off as a very thorough flush
