Hybrid brakes and calipers

I've pulled the (abuttment clips?) the stainless steel bits that the pads slide on, so as to clean rust from underneath them, but I swear, that doesn't do much. Cleaning the rust off the pad ear side, then file to fit on the pads, is required. That said, if it's all apart and you plan to replace all, a good cleaning makes sense. I'm just not sure what really wears on those stainless bits.

I'd pull the pins and look. I'm dubious that you will make another 10 otherwise, and even then, you're apt to be in here sooner than that.

At least this isn't like my Tundra. When those pads would get stuck... they were stuck with no easy way to hammer on them.

The pads were really seized in the stainless clips badly.

I actually had to hammer one out with a drift.

I ended up getting a set of clips from Autozone. AFAIK they’re stainless but they’re also coated with something. I applied M-77 to the sliding surfaces.

Overall the bracket cleaned up ok with a file and brush, but here’s the way they looked when I first took off the clips:

Pin grease was ok. Interestingly it must be orange from the factory.

One got put together before our evening plans by he other side wasn’t as seized so should be easier.

I am a tiny bit concerned if it’s not just an optical illusion - that the bottom pin is sitting slightly closer in than the upper, meaning that something was bent or worn out of round. Or maybe it’s an optical illusion…

I think the break-in pattern of the geomet should be telling.
