I'm under the impression that this is a decent, made in China tool brand that is very competitive as far as pricing and reliability. What do you think?

Yup. That pretty much sums up my opinion of them. I buy them for use in my company. They don't cost much, hold up well, feel well made, and if one gets "misplaced" it's not like you lost a Snap On or Proto.

Basically a Stanley import. Don't know that they are anything remarkable, but they do the job.

Nothing decent about them. Like HF and other Chinese tools they are for the most part junk with very few exceptions.
Think of them as cheap beater tools that you don't mind loosing or loaning out, if you are serious about working with tools don't bother, buy good tools and save money in the long run.

Husky tools have recently been revamped.

Many of the sockets and ratchets that were previously sourced from Stanley now appear to be sourced from Apex Tools.

For example, the toque wrenches are now USA made Apex torque wrenches that appear to be rebadged GearWrench torque wrenches. The GW wrenches are generally well regarded on Garage Journal.

The sockets/ratchets appear to now be Apex tools produced in Taiwan. Many of the ratchets are obviously made by Apex because they use the same single-pawl mechanism used in GearWrench, Armstrong, Matco and other ratchets.

Both the above changes are positive steps over the previous Husky tools, many of which appeared to be previously supplied by Stanley.

A bunch of randoms, I don't have my own set actually. Never been in a position to warrant buying one. So typically whatever is at my GF's dad's house (a lot of Snap-On, Craftsman), whatever is at the shop (a lot of cheap Chinese tools), whatever I've used that other people provided for their projects.

I hold Kobalt in 1/2 step higher regard. Taiwan != China and more Kobalt seems to be from Taiwan. Regrettably they can do better chrome overseas for a given price point (enviro regs) and Kobalt's chrome is darn pretty. Also stuff like ratchet action and fastener non-round-off-ability is better/equal with Kobalt.

Got some Husky wrenches back in 1999 when they were Danahar sourced (like Craftsman) and they're "ok".

I've been known to pick up husky on post Xmas or Father's Day clearances; they're an okay value tool to chuck in a car trunk roadside kit.

home depot in my findings are not honest about warranty issues and very often sell stuff and then stop sell it and tell you tough or give you a phone number to call to ask for them to honor what they sell. I don't spend money at home depot any more because of their non stand behind products attitude

+1

The only thing I have bought there recently and like pretty much is their standard/classic screwdrivers. Still us made, and I like the profiled surface on them. Still, they are reducing stock of them and making more big packs of chinesium.
