Havne't seen it yet, but curious - might wait till it comes out on Blu Ray - it discourages me to see that stupid shaky cam has been overused...AGAIN! NOT gonna see it in the theatre for sure.

...I think JL looks cute when she says " I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE !!"

The books were not for kids (AFAIK). (not all stories which have children/young adults as main characters are intended for child audiences!)
The movie shouldn't have been geared towards kids, which I guess watered it down. I am against that - there are enough movies / comedies / cartoons/ disney movies for kids (brats). Let the adults have the full force of a movie if the books were not intended for children.

I haven't read the book (yet), but there are plenty of children/YA books with pretty dark plots. The later Harry Potter books come to mind...the origin of my screen name is a children's book series (bookstores usually have a separate section for them, but I have never seen a library NOT catalog them under "young adult/teen")--the first book opens with the main character a moment from being killed as an infant by his sisters...he is sapared only because one of his brothers murders his oldest brother. (Homeland, book 1 of the Dark Elf Trilogy, by Robert A. Salvatore)

My Wife and Daughter read the books and are going to see the movie. Thought about reading them myself as that is all they and some friends talked about for some time.

Me too!

Same...never heard of the books until the movie.

Anyways, went and saw the movie last night. I sorta chuckled at this thread, because every time Katnip grabbed a bow I payed more attention to her form then I did the actual scene :p...
Apparently they brought in an Olympic archer to teach her how to shoot, so take that for what its worth.

As for the movie, it wasn't to bad. People have complained that it was slow, but I prefer movies that take their time. This wasn't an "action" movie by any means...more of a "young-adult drama", and that's exactly what the books were. Very much like Twilight in that regard, but overall a more quality product, one much more approachable by people outside of the target demographic.
I would have preferred more time be spent on the other tributes, so you at least get a better understanding of their characters, but due to time constraints that simply wasn't possible. I guess I'll have to read the book for more depth in that regard.
There were also a couple sequences where it feels like they lopped off 10-15 minutes of the movie, because I was left wondering how things got from point A to B...in a figurative sense anyways. Once again, reading the book will probably enlighten the subject a bit.

I read a brief summary of all the books after seeing the film, and I'm wondering if the next 3 films are going to be any good. The subject matter of the latter books is not nearly as original as the first, and some of the character development that takes place will certainly leave a bitter taste in the mouth of your average movie goer. Anyways, time will tell.

Had a free ticket from Dish Network for Pay For View. Watched it, wasn't even worth the free ticket, total waste of time.

Rented it last week as I had a free Redbox code. I liked it better when it was called "Battle Royale" and made 12 years ago in Japan, also from a book by the same name.

I saw the movie.
Not quite understood why the teens are enamored with this movie.

Fight for food? As if that is in itself a new concept? not to me.

Much better "The Tournament"

Every seven years in an unsuspecting town, The Tournament takes place. A battle royale between 30 of the world's deadliest assassins. The last man standing receiving the $10,000,000 cash prize and the title of Worlds No 1, which itself carries the legendary million dollar a bullet price tag.

Dystopian stories are nothing new.

I think Ender's Game would be the better choice for interesting reading. Also Speaker for the Dead by the same author (Orson Scott Card).

I really enjoyed the movie, saw it in the theater, then on an airliner.

Katnip

has nice eyes and I liked her character. I'm one of those who can overlook movie mistakes easily. I don't need absolute perfection to enjoy a story.
