HTHS for Delo 400

To all those interested, Chevron tech send me a mail with the Delo 400's HTHS rating and it is 4.4 cP (@
150C).

Makes it on par with Mobil Delvac Super.

Just receive a reply from RP Tech that RP 15w40 has a HTHS of only 3.7
What i don understand is that why a synthetic base HDEO oil has such a low HTHS rating while a mineral base HDEO are higher?

One of the reasons could be synthetics can resist breakdown much better than minerals so they wouldnt be prone to lower HTHS readings after use.

I always thought that higher the HTHS figure the better and only synthetic base oil could give a higher HTHS than mineral.

Absolutely right, a higher HTHS is always better but in case of mineral oils that number is like an insurance as they are expecting the HTHS to detiorate after mileage which doesnt happen with the synthetics.
