Good day all,

My friend's HP DV6000 laptop DVD/CD burner cannot burn anymore CDs and so we ordered a used one off eBay and replaced it.

The replacement was bad and we returned it and ordered another used replacement off eBay as well.

The 2nd used replacement burned CDs but then cannot read the burned CDs. Windows 7 will show them as blank discs.

I am wondering now if the 2nd replacement drive is bad as well.
But can some internal component in the motherboard affect the DVD/CD drive's burn and read operations?

Thanks

Could be a driver compatibility problem. I have a pair of DV 6000's and have never had a problem with the CD RW drive. Check and see at the HP website if there is an updated driver for W7 as Vista was the original operating system. Their online help is very good, you can get a person who understands English and can usually fix the issue.

Good Luck

Thanks Russ for your reply. I cannot find any firmware upgrades for this optical drive.

I tried Windows XP and I had the same problems with Windows 7.

I had this problem on a Windows XP machine and it turned out to be a patch from Microsoft that was applied with the normal updates and it was causing the issue.

Laptop was an ACER.

I updated Windows and still no luck.

I found a laptop to test the 2nd replacement and will see if it works or not.

Well it turned out the 2nd replacement and the original are both bad. I used different programs to burn and it would not work as it should.

Thank you all for your help. Now I know the DV6000 is still working properly. We will buy a new one this time from eBay.
