How to remove old clear bra paint protection film?

Following. I have 2 vehicles I want to remove PPF from, one has had it on for 11 years, the other almost 5.

Of course, the 11 year one is BLACK so we'll see how that turns out. My biggest worry is paint coming off with the film, not so much paint matching (at least for now)

Got both mirrors done with a heat gun and plastic razor blade. That took about 3 hours.

Then I switched to a plastic scraper with the heat gun and that improved the speed considerably. Going from pencil erased size bits to postage stamp size. Got this side of the fender done in an hour plus a half hour to remove the adhesive residue.

Just curious, how was the Elise stored?? Wondering what could cause the film to turn into a petri dish....
Looks like a common thing with older film
