How to disable ignition/fuel for piston soak?

How should I go about doing this for a 94 Corolla??? I want to crank the engine over with rags down the holes to expel any remaining cleaner so I don't hydrolock the engine.

Just pull any fuses related to fuel/ignition??? There are several apparently. The fuel pump relay is oddly enough mounted behind the radio so I'm not screwing with that! Between the 2 fuse boxes, there are 4 fuses related to fuel injection system.

Should I also unplug the distributor and the fuel injector connectors to be safe???

If you are putting rags in the holes...i dont see how you are going to have spark ?

Pull a relay,fuse,unplug the coil etc. Lots of ways.

Be careful with rags in the holes... they can get sucked in on the power stroke when cranking. Ask me how I know...

just let it blow stuff everywhere and clean up afterwards.

Leave the key out.
Unplug the starter relay and jump out pins 5 and 3. That will engage the starter.
The starter will spin the engine with out powering anything else up.

Thanks for the tip! Did you have to do anything drastic to get the rags out like remove the head???

Pretty much what CrAlt said but just take a wire straight from the battery to the starter solenoid if you don't know where the starter relay is.

Why not unplug the distributor and floor the gas?

The distributor pickup being absent *should* stop injection, but the gas will activate clear flood mode anyway.

Rags aren't getting sucked in the plug holes if they have any reasonable size to them. In fact they'll pop out on the first stroke and you'll still get a horrible mess under hood.

With unleaded fuels of today, Very little piston deposits even exits. even on a very high mileage engine. deposits are not a issue today. i dont get the point of a piston soak.

I like to blow any excess out after a piston soak, and I usually either remove all plugs and make sure all spark plug boots are out of arcing range of any metal parts, or do the same with the coil wire if the system uses an external coil wire. Only two or three revolutions are necessary to blow out excess liquid - I just lay a large rag or T-shirt (on I-4's) over the valve cover, not a great idea to put anything tight enough down in the spark plug holes that it could get sucked in.

Maybe cover up what you don't want sprayed? Whatever you do, do it outside. The only time I did a Seafoam hot soak on the Borman 6 along with a bunch of other stuff to pass emissions. So the results were inconclusive. But the spectacle was worth the ridiculous price. Its a wonder my neighbors didn't call the Fire Dept. BMW recommended Ventil Sauber. Berryman's in a can is probably better. Curb you OCD. Accept the mess. There isn't that much.
