My Dad is having a new JD X540 garden tractor delivered this week. Engine is a liquid cooled 26 hp Kawasaki. First oil change is at 8 hours. I'm debating whether to use Amsoil (I have to decide between ACD or ASE for the first change or run and interval with Rotella T 10W30? Any thoughts?

I'm using the ACD in my Kawasaki powered Toro and it works great. I think you would be pleased with it's performance.
Can't go with a quality fluid too soon.
Is the OCI 8 hours all the time or just on the first change?

Just the first change is at 8 hours. Will then go to yearly changes before putting it away for the winter which should be about 50 hours.

Do short run with Rotella then switch to syn.
What is the difference between ACD and ACE? Their both 30W/10W30? The ACE is marketed as a small engine oil.

The ACD is not available in quarts. The ACE is but not available in gallon. The ACE is $2 a gallon cheaper. They both have different performance specifications and typical properties.
I went to the normal break-in time on my push mower, which was 5 hours. Then I put in the Amsoil Formula 4-Stroke 0w-40 because I had a good experience with it in a past lawnmower. So far so good, uses a touch less gas than the SAE 30 that was in there for break-in.
any usage?
I accidentally overfilled the crankcase by an ounce or so, and it was just barely over the Full mark. Last time I checked it, it was dead on the Full mark. I've probably used it for 10-15 hours over the past year.
Past lawnmower that was neglected and never had it's oil changed until the day it ran dry and seized. I refilled it with Mystick SAE 30 and it would use some about every time I cut grass. I put in Amsoil XL 5w30 and it had far less oil consumption, which I figured could be because it cleaned up some gunk inside and the dirty oil would not seal well around the piston area. I then put in the Amsoil 0w-40 and it never used oil again.
