While at Walmart this morning I took DN3's advice and was comparing filter gasket diameters. I wanted to compare the MC FL-400S to the 910S. This 910S was on the shelf, the box all tattered and ripped in a spot or two. I compared the box to another one and it looked much older. Even the writting on the filter was bolder and more black in color than a newer one. Oh, and the older one was dented.
Does anyone have any idea how old it is?

Not th at old. The boxes just started changing last year. Depending on location, the supplier may still have some of this type box in stock.

Don't buy a dented filter. Return/exchange a filter if you fail to check beforehand and discover a dent after purchase. If you end up with a filter that's dented and you can't return it... do you feel lucky? Well do ya... punk? ( : < )

If it's just a dent, with no sharp creases... the odds are better that it will work out OK and under pressure the dent will just pop out with minimal risk of a stress failure (no guarantees). If you see a sharp crease, think about how you have bent & rebent a piece of sheet metal to break it off and ask yourself if you would trust that stressed metal at 100 psi?
