How old do these plugs look?

This plot thickened a bit, plugs all changed with the NGK Rutheniums and timing belt kit done by Honda buddy. He said something didn't feel quite right after doing the timing kit and he pulled out his scan tool...

After some worry that the new plugs were fakes or the timing job wasn't done properly, turns out this is pretty common on 2017 Pilot's and it's actually failing fuel injectors that Honda has acknowledged and offered extended warranty (150K miles or 10 years).

Honda is really making JUNK. My 13' Pilot was a maintenance RAT. Bought for 48k new, sold for 5k in pristine condition. COULD NOT GET RID OF IT !!!! Nobody wanted it. It was a garaged EXL , AWD,,,black pleather interior,,GORGEOUS Pearl maroon red paint. What a sin. What a RAT though !!!!!!!!!!! Something was always broken on it.

What are you going to do about it?
Do you think the dealer would replace the injectors for free?

My father in law has a 2012 and has had zero issues. He tows small loads often as well. Almost 200K on it.

Nothing but trouble with my 13' Pilot EXL. A lot of city driving and New York trafffic jams did it in I'm sure. But, at 1k, a RR shock blows ????....80k transmission blew ( and I spilled and filled it every 25k ), front struts bearings at 95k, all 3 CATS at 100k, ate brakes for breakfast ,( I believe they were undersized for the weight of the vehicle). Front rotors would constantly warp out no matter what brand I put in, even OEM. Every single spark plug tube gasket leaked starting at 65k. Plugs and coils were swimming in oil..Pass side split axle bearing failed at 102k. NEVER towed anything with it either. Didn't even take the cover off to look at the receiver hitch..every motor mount broke too.... My wife drove it..,,and did not abuse it.....Maybe we just got a car built on a Monday, after Sunday night football. Drank gas like an alcoholic sitting in a bar to boot. Took a bad hit selling it, but it was only worth $ 6,000 bucks with 110k on it as per KBB / Carvana/ etc....in EXCELLENT condition mind you. That RAT did not hold it's value at all. Sold it in 2024. Glad it's GONE :) Out of sight, out of mind.

Best of luck with you're fight with Corporate Honda over the fuel injector problems. It would give me satisfaction if you win you're case ( and you're own satisfaction of course) Honda left a really bad taste in my mouth with that RAT 13' Pilot.

I do not think I have ever seen a cream puff used vehicle that came out of the NYC Tri-State area. Just the end use of crappy roads, short tripping, high idle hours and maintenance differed because of the brutal winters does not make them good candidates.

This was a cream puff., on the outside... The roads and traffic killed it. We lived just outside of City Boroughs, In Yonkers, NY. She used the truck to go to her job at Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital. She is a nurse. No longer works in Manhattan. Dumped that job, too depressing... New York has the highest taxes and the worst roads. We now live up the line in the suburbs of New York. Same thing though... Roads are deplorable for the amount of taxes paid. Highest in the country, beat California by 2%. They don't pave, just fill in pot holes,or put a thin wearing asphalt wearing couse 3' wider than the tire track to get rid of the stuff that not fixable. I've yet to see a milling machine on a County or State Road doin the right thing. Skim off the wearing course, and lay down new asphalt!!! Too busy lining their pockets. Now, Town roads are a bit better, because you pay Town taxes, on top of State, and Federal taxes. The Town Boards wants nice roads. But, it was too late for the Pilot. Damage was done. Will be moving in 8 yrs anyway. Get out of this friggin salt belt . Been in it all our lives. Enough is enough. Waiting for the wife to retire and get her pension, then GOOD RIDDANCE NY !

Wanted to update you guys. The local Honda dealer has confirmed it's bad injectors and is replacing them either today or tomorrow. They did give me a small amount of grief for using the NGK Rutheniums instead of the Laser Iridiums. I think it had zero bearing on this issue but I do understand that if I had used OEM NGK's that gives them less ammo to say "this is your fault".

Well, the saga continues... Back in the shop still with misfires on all cylinders. This time it's back at the ford dealer where we bought it because we called and complained about the vehicle. They wanted to look at it before making any decisions. Here's what I scanned before taking it back in.
