Just wondering because I had my Corolla changed at Pep Boys 2 years when it was 18 years old. I don't think it was every changed. I don't even know if P/S fluid has change interval. I can't stand seeing fluid being in so long though.

If it was a Honda you had changed they are very very very stringent on the use of Honda PS fluid, and I have read/heard many problems if you do not use the Honda PS fluid as well.

My PS fluid is right on the mark, so it needs some, it does not leak etc, but I had rather have a fluid like PS that never gets changed or very very long intervals sitting midway to full mark.. So when I purchase a quart from the Honda dealer I will use all the quart possible..

Now in a system like PS fluid I just don't see the need for change, maybe one time a couple years after new, but there is just not the need as it does not get contaminated like engine oil..

Yearly? That would be already 20 changes for my winter car and 15 changes for my summer car!

I use 30K. I also use the complete fluid exchange method and not the turkey baster method. The first change is the most important to get the breakin debris out of there.

about the same time I change ps pumps.

I have changed ps pumps twice lifetime for my own vehicles. and only then cuz one was busted due to a deer strike.

(meaning Im sorta of the opinion it aint that important)

Not very often because it just isn't needed,i change/flush it when i get a new vehicle in but then that's it..

I have only change PS fluid on one car, a 96 Corvette because they toasted the fluid.

I do think it would be wise to change at some reasonable interval if you were going to keep a car a long time, but the cars we have kept 200k miles got by without a change. Not saying that's wise, just that it worked for me.

There is no service interval (in general) for that fluid. However, changing it every 2 or 3 years is a great idea!

it depends on the car. On some cars I've owned (Honda, Nissan and Volvo), I changed it at 100K, just because. On my Ford, I flushed it at 30K, then again at 60K, because the pump was making a ton of noise. After the second flush, I now do a partial swap (suck out at the reservoir and add fluid) every oil change, and that seems to keep things happy. This car is hard on PS fluid...not sure why, but it seems common to Fords.

So, I guess "as often as needed" or "every 100K", whichever comes first...

I usually change the PS fluid every 3 years or so. I do a flush by emptying the reservoir of the old, adding new ATF or PS fluid, removing the end of the hose that returns to the reservoir and placing that end in a empty large coffee can. Make sure to have a piece of spare hose to cover the return end of the reservoir and put a screw in the end of the hose to keep fluid from spilling out of the reservoir. Having a helper/neighbor turn on the car and slowly turn the steering wheel back and forth to help drain the system. Having a helper do this makes the job a lot easier. As I replace the old fluid with the new in the reservoir, I wait until the fluid is nice and clean on the return line into the coffee can. Once the fluid is nice and clean, turn off the car, take off the temporary cap line to the reservoir and then reattach the return end hose to the reservoir and secure it with a spring clamp. Finish by making sure the reservoir is full of clean PS/Transmission,(ATF)fluid, and there are no in the hose leaks connection. Job finished.

I check the level every once in a while. If it's starting to look dark on the paper towel when I wipe the dipstick, I'll siphon and refill the reservoir a couple of times.

Same here. I've never done a flush or taken off a PS hose. Using the turkey baster every so often has worked fine for me.

I drain and replenish the reservoir every time I change oil.

Ditto on the coolant if it has a tank.

Every 25,000 miles.

Never! check the fluid levels weekly and add as necessary but on my 83 Silverado with 210K, still running the original P/S pump

I use the turkey baster or vacuum suction method when I think of it. Sometimes it is yearly, other times it skips a year or two, which it seems is not a big deal...
