How often to you "wring out" your vehicles?

I was out driving yesterday and decided to give the Accord an Italian tune up. I eased onto the gas from a stop then floored the pedal and got up to around 80 MPH hitting the max rpm (auto) at every shift point. It had about 5-6 miles to warm up before I did it, I also dropped it down to 3rd gear and let the engine spin at 3000-3500 for maybe half a minute or so to heat it up before I dropped the petal. I only do this maybe once every couple months, I am otherwise a very conservative driver with 3000 rpm being the max. How often do you wring your cars out?

LOL I do it on the Camry all the time, doesn't hurt a thing except the gas mileage. It *almost* likes to be flogged.

I only wring out my Fit when I anticipate getting boxed in or if someone is speeding up to block me from merging etc.

People do that ALL the time in Montreal, even though it is illegal to speed up to prevent someone from merging.

It is pretty funny, because when people pull stuff like that they totally don't expect the Fit to have enough "get up and go" to slip past them.

The iVtec kicks in and it is almost like an 80cc two stroke dirt bike that is hitting the power band as it winds up to 6K rpm.

I like to do it only when the situation calls for it, about twice a week. I feel good about it, knowing it is blowing out a bit of carbon and actually using a bit of the cars intended "performance" as I nanny drive all the time.

Every day I drive it, the Miata sees WOT to 7+ Grand a couple of times (freeway entrances mostly). 300K on the clock and no evidence its anywhere near dying. Good oil in it, of course.

Factory redline is 7K and the computer lies to the tach for 200 RPM so 7K indicated is 6800 motor. Note that if you go by the factory tach, pretty much every OEM lies to the tach.

If you live in a moderately busy area and merging onto at least one on ramp a day, you're doing the it anyways.

I thought the Italian tuneup was extended time at high rpm to get the temps up? Is it really doing anything to floor it for a few min?

I'm somewhat doubtful this is doing anything.

Its a Honda with a 5MT!!....quite often, I LOVE 2nd gear!!

Not really that often a d if I did it wasn't for the tune up.

Many years back when I was in Missouri I drove from Saint Joseph to Cameron (about 30 miles) was doing 115mph+ I wasn't exactly sure how fast I was going as I dropped the needle.

Didn't see a single car, and for the most part the drive was perfectly straight shot, no real turns or anything. Just a dark night.

I miss that car, it died a few months later when the oil pump failed in traffic. Was a 96 Bonneville 3.8 Series 2

Nearly every day. Mine will pull to the 110kmh (68 mph) limit in 1st and the redline is only 5,500rpm!
I like the slow surge of power past 2,500 rpm I like to plant my foot a lot. Not too often though because it drinks if I do! I don't want to damage anything either but it runs much much smoother now than it did when I used to baby it everywhere.

The MS3 and Club Sport are always driven briskly- after a suitable warm up, of course. I nudge the redline in each one on most every trip.
One early Sunday morning back in 1984 I drove my 1973 Bavaria across PA at between 100 and 120 mph(thank you, Cobra CB and CM Escort). A great memory.

I did it in 1971 with my 289 Mustang. I walked home due to the output shaft in my transmission being sheared in half.

Not since.

Everyday. And my wife is guilty of driving like a hooligan, too.
Unfortunately, I'm currently putting a new clutch in my VW GTI with 52K on it.
My wife drives an Audi A4 quattro with a stick and I hope it doesn't use the same POS clutch.

Every time I drive, after it's warmed up. My car's engine doesn't take kindly to mild driving.

I do it moderately often...

This is a video of me merging onto the interstate, "wringing her out" lol.

I love the sound of my engine.

Lessee I started when I bought my first car(with money from part time job after school) and have never stopped, that was 1966...

Wound up the '72 Comet GT today, need to get the 300 mile engine broken in(hey I took it easy the first 150 mi or so)...
