Hi guys, just got myself a new Moto G play phone. Replaced my essential phone PH-1 that I've had for the last 5+ years.

How often do you change your phones?

I usually upgrade to keep up with faster networks. Not much point upgrading sooner than that. And I usually wait till the newer network speed has been around a while. Seems to be about every 5 years. May pick up a 5G phone next year.

3G->LTE->5G

Had a Samsung 4S from 2013. Then had a Samsung A5 2017, Last month I got a Samsung A52 5G.

Before this I had a I phone 3 2009 and a Ericsson before that 2001.

So about 4 years....

I don't grasp the new generation concept of needing the latest gadgets, paying huge premiums ($1000 for a phone and $300 per month for plans is absolutely bananas), standing in lines, etc.

Considering I detest giving money to technology companies, given their relatively corrupt evil practices, and considering constant upgrades are not environmentally friendly (for all the treehuggers out there to take note), and given the full day hassle of the transition, I upgrade only when absolutely necessary when I've squeezed the life out of my current mobile phone.

That's generally about every 3-5 years. Then I'll buy a $100 phone and start the process anew.

I got my first cellular around 1999 or so. That got smashed by accident after a few years. Since then I think I've had four or five. The reasons are generally that the phone simply no longer works reliably. My favorite was probably my Blackberry. I really liked it. High quality, durable, I liked the roller ball and the physical buttons, and other features like the ringer and vibration that no other phones seem to get right.

I seem to be on the every other release cycle. Had Galaxy 6, 8, and now a 10.

Every 2-3 years I'd guess. I think I used to get 3 or more, but now I use it much more often (play games while waiting in line, answer emails, look up info while standing in a store about an item that I might want to buy). When it slows down or gives grief, or an upgrade really would make my life better--I tell you, being able to use my thumbprint is really nice, as opposed to always tapping in a PIN.

I use my a bit at work, to take photos of items. I can't plug a USB thing into my computer, all memory sticks etc are blocked. But I can email myself photos all day long. So if I need to document something, I email photos to my work email and then it's on my work computer. My phone is not very much used as a phone/text machine as a result, bit more like any other tool I have. Albeit one that I can play Sudoku on...

I miss my Microsoft cell phone. Actaully, I had 2. Microsoft gave me one at a "CEO Summit" in Redmond. The CEO sent me and Sue...
The 2nd one I loved.
Alas, now I use a cheaper Google phone. Great phone....

So, every 3 years maybe? Dunno...

What phone has a 300$ per month phone plan???

I've gotten plenty of "$1000" phones for $500 and under.

s8 week after release for $400, pixel 3 for $600 with $620 in fi service credit, moto g power 2020 for $150, pixel 4a 5g for $200

Phone bill is $81 for 3 phones and 60GB shared data.

I suppose we should all be driving yugos.. no need for those fancy chevy sparks... pure bitog lol.

If they give a halfway decent trade in on a pixel 3 or pixel 4a 5g I'll be on the pixel 6 too.

now $1700 for a folding phone sheesh.. would definitely agree, but even the "$1500" samsung s20 ultras were going bogo shortly after release.
