I haven't changed the diesel filter on my Volvo yet, as it doesn't have a life pump and no underbonnet primer they are a nightmare to get restarted.
The filter should be changed every 25k or 2 yrs.
If the Volvo dealer has stuck to the service plan then it should have been changed at 78k. Last dealer service was at 93k. The previous owner was a company and it had periods were it did 1000 miles a week and times were it dropped to 500 miles a week, from were the company is based it would be mostly motorway and dual carriageway use. The above interval of 15k was 2.5k past the normal interval but the miles were done in just under 3 months.
Ordered the tool from Seeley this week so will do it before end of the month.
The wife's Clio has the filter hidden inside the wheels arch liner so I had it done at 76k when it had the cambelt and water pump changed.
Can't say I noticed any difference.
In the Taxi I think they advise every 20/30k. As there is only mention of draining the water in the handbook. Though due to the ease of changing the service garage I have used most changes it every 10k on my VM engined Taxi.
I know of some that changed them every 10/12k on the old Bosch injected Citroens and Peugeots with the 1.9 XUD engine.
I personally think the low sulphur fuels in the UK are much better quality than UK diesel of even 10yrs ago thus making fuel filter change intervals fairly long
Will let you know what my filter looks like when I change it. It has been in there
